A few tears of frustration rolled down Ivory's cheeks, when the presentation for her history assignment, that she worked on for hours, wasn't formatting the way she wanted it to. For about twenty minutes the blonde has unsuccessfully tried to add a picture to her presentation and she had no clue why it wouldn't work. In her mind it was the simplest thing to do, which is why she started crying as soon as she was too overwhelmed. She felt stupid and useless.
And once again she grabbed her phone from besides her MacBook, this time closing the dozen Google tabs she had opened, seeking for help from a closer source. The girl blew a few stray hairs out of her face as she tapped on her chat with her classmate Tyler.
His assigned seat in History class was right next to hers. Although she heard a lot about him from her friends, she couldn't believe they were talking about the same Tyler she gets to talk to twice a week. They say there's something off about him and he is never as cheery in other classes as he may seem around Ivory, but the blonde was never one to snoop around in other's businesses. He was always nice to her and he knew a lot about technology, so the blonde was glad to have someone help her at least and never questioned it any further. On top of that she may have even developed a little crush on him over the course of the last two semesters, she knew it was stupid and her friends would say she is out of her mind, but she couldn't help herself.
She didn't talk much to other people other than her three friends from school, let alone strangers. She gets way too nervous at times and it's hard for her to keep her emotions in range, so it was hard for Ivory not to crush on the first guy who actually showed interest in her.
She put her phone back on her desk and, for the first time that evening, took a break from working on her assignment. Ivory felt like there was no use in continuing and stressing herself out even more so she stood up from her desk, stretched herself a little bit and walked over to her window seat. Her whole room was cluttered with plants and gem stones, something she was interested in ever since she was a child. Whenever they came over, her friends envied her for her stylish room decor and believed that's all it was, but to Ivory it was much more than that. Not even Ivory herself knew what it was that drew her to it, but the girl always felt a special connection to plants and also carried a gemstone necklace with her wherever she went, it was once gifted to her by her aunt and 7-year old Ivory loved it so much that she never wanted to take it off.
She was seated on her window seat, spraying some water on nearby plants when her mother called her downstairs. The girl gasped when she saw not only her parents, but also her aunt seated in the living room, serious expressions on all of their faces and hushed voices suddenly getting quiet.
"Aunt May?", the girl questioned, slowly coming to a halt in front of her Aunt who stood up to embrace her, a small smile gracing her features. She hadn't seen her aunt in years, so it came as a surprise to suddenly see her again. The last time she saw her had to be around the time she started going to school and the day she gave Ivory that necklace, ever since then there had been close to no contact. She barely recognised her own aunt, but her features, which were oh so similar to her mothers, were something that Ivory saw on herself as well. Green eyes, freckles, pale skin.
"Sit down honey, we need to talk to you", Marina Brooks advised her daughter and nudged her towards the arm stool opposite the sofa that they were seated on. Ivory was immediately alerted by the tense atmosphere and worried she had done something to anger her parents.
"Don't worry Rory, you did nothing wrong.", was the first thing Alexandar Brooks said, when he saw the anxious state his daughter was in. He felt similar, when he opened the door earlier that night to find his wife's sister stood there, a woman he hadn't seen in years and knew only visited when something had happened.
