From the minute I heard Liyah was admitted to the ER, everything around me just stopped. I wrapped up my photoshoot and trusting Tiffany's judgment, went straight home. My mind was racing trying to figure out how a doctor's appointment could lead to all of this. I called Ma Dukes on the way home to calm me down.
"Hey, I wasn't expecting to hear from you until tomorrow. What's up?"
"Liyah in the hospital."
"What happened? Is she okay?"
"I don't know yet. She just went in for a doctor's appointment and ended up in the emergency room. Her best friend with her and she told me she would keep me updated."
Just then a text came through from Tiff letting me know she was discharged and would talk to me when they got back.
"She's discharged. They on their way to the house."
"Did she say what happened?"
"Nah, just said she would tell me later. It's gotta be bad if we gotta talk about it face to face."
"Don't talk like that. I'm on my way. Just try to stay positive."
"Aight, Ma. I'll see you in a bit."
I made it home, sitting in the car as I prepared myself for whatever news was coming. Liyah's G Wagon pulled in beside me as Tiff jumped out. I ran to the other side, seeing Liyah looking distraught.
"What's wrong, baby? Talk to me."
"She's not talking. Help me get her inside."
I picked Liyah up as she winced in pain and carefully carried her in the house. I helped her into the bed as she rolled on her side, still not saying anything. I went back downstairs as my mama was coming in through the front door.
"Hey, how is she?" she asked, pulling me in for a hug.
"She just look like she in shock. Mama, this Tiffany. Tiffany, this my mama."
"Nice to meet you," Tiff smiled as they hugged.
"Okay, what happened?" I asked, not sure if I was ready for the answer.
"Y'all might wanna sit down for this one."
We walked over to the couch as Tiff paced back and forth trying to figure out how to tell us the news.
"There's really no easy way to say this," she began. "Liyah had a miscarriage."
"You didn't tell me she was pregnant, Nayvadius."
"I didn't know."
"Nobody knew," Tiff jumped in. "She went to get her birth control shot and she was bleeding earlier before we left."
"She told me her stomach was hurting," I said, putting my head in my hands.
"Hey," Tiff whispered walking over to comfort me. "It's not your fault. Nobody knew and there was nothing we could do."
"I should've been there. I know she was scared not knowing what was going on."
"Do you think she'll be okay?" my mom asked.
"Too soon to tell. She's not talking. I think she's still in shock."
"Let's all just call it a night and we'll talk more about it in the morning. I'll take the guest room down here."
"Thank you, Ma," I hugged her.
"Don't force her to talk about it. Just be there for her and she'll say something when she's ready."
She hugged Tiff and went down the hall before we headed upstairs for the night.
"Your mom really cares about her."
