"And now we'll have a few words from his only child, his daughter Aaliyah," the pastor said, walking back to his seat.

Pluto helped me to the podium, kissing me on the cheek before returning to his seat. I looked at everyone, sharing the pain with those that knew him even better than I did.

"Thank you all so much for coming," I said softly, wiping tears before they could fall. "When my mother was sick, I at least had a warning that one day her time would come. You can never prepare for something so sudden as a car accident. I always saw him throughout my childhood, never knowing he was my father, but he always showed up for me. I just thought he was one of my mom's exes that couldn't let go but he was there for me for every moment. Sitting in the back row of my dance recitals, at every game to watch me cheer, my high school graduation. He never missed a moment no matter what."

The door opened slowly as I saw Tiffany walk in, looking at me for a moment before finding a seat along the back wall. Pluto noticed the change in my expression, looking back to see her as well before turning back to me.

"My dad was a very gentle soul, I got that from him. Even in the short time I've known him I never heard him raise his voice. He treated everyone with kindness and respect even when they didn't deserve it. He loved me and my mother so much that he put his life on pause just for us. Never got married, never had other children. I don't think he has any regrets about the life he lived, only wishing that he had more time."

I got choked up trying to maintain my composure as Pluto came up to me, wrapping me in a hug to keep me calm.

"You're doing good, baby," he whispered. "If you wanna stop, we can sit down."

I shook my head, calming down enough to finish speaking but keeping him at my side.

"We're all gonna miss you, Daddy. You touched every life in this room and we're forever grateful for knowing such a wonderful person. Take care of Mama for me."

I started crying again before turning to walk down towards his coffin. I looked at his still, peaceful body and kissed his cheek to send him off before returning to my seat. The service wrapped up as they said a final prayer, closing the lid forever.

later that day ...

The repast was at Gigi's house. Even though he and Mama never married, she still viewed him as a son although she kept the secret of him being my father. I sat in the living room with Chelle and Pluto sharing stories about my dad as they helped me grieve.

"No way Alonzo beat up Uncle Will," I laughed after Chelle shared a story about a spades game gone wrong.

"Whooped my daddy ass," she laughed. "When I heard you say he never raised his voice I had to keep myself from laughing."

"Shit, he whooped me and Metro at dominoes at that cookout we had the day after the wedding," Pluto laughed.

"Speaking of Metro," I said, turning to Chelle. "What's going on with that?"

"I wanted it to be a surprise," she started smiling. "But I'm moving to Atlanta in a couple weeks."

"Oh my God!" I smiled. "Wait, what about Will?"

"Girl I'm grown. My daddy can't tell me nothing."

"No the other Will. I can't believe you dated someone with the same name as your dad."

"We were off around the time I started seeing Metro so we just never got back on," she shrugged. "Besides, I needed to be closer to my TT baby."

She reached over to my stomach, poking Peanut as the baby moved around inside me.

"You still don't wanna know what you're having?" she teased.

"I haven't decided yet," I sighed rubbing my stomach to calm Peanut down.

"I have," Pluto said. "She can find out later but I wanna know."

Chelle got up, leaning over to whisper to Pluto as a smile came across his face.

"Good," he nodded, content with her answer.

"I might as well know now before Big Mouth spills the beans so go ahead and tell me."

"You sure?" Chelle asked.

"Yeah, go ahead," I sighed, bracing myself.

She looked at Pluto and he nodded before she looked back at me with a smile.

"Liyah, can I talk to you?" a voice interrupted.

We all turned as our smiles dropped seeing Tiffany standing in the doorway.
