Kaiju Girls: A New Era

The normally peaceful start of the next day is broken with the sound of an alarm blaring throughout the base. Leo and May enter the briefing room to see what triggered.

Computer: "Here's your mission. The client is the mayor of Portland, Oregon. The objective is the eradication of a Category Four Kaiju that was spotted of the West Coast earlier this morning. An Oregon News helicopter was able to a video recording of the Kaiju and sent it to this base." The video recording file is opened up on the screen, allowing the two NEXT pilots to see.

The Kaiju seen in the video appears to walk on all-fours, instead of walking upright like some of the other types of Kaiju.

Its anatomy consists of two short legs and long, four-digit hand-wings that bear a striking resemblance to those of a Pterosaur which the Kaiju can use to fly. Its wings are stored inside the forearms for protection, folding out from an elongated, double-jointed fifth digit. The Kaiju is capable of flight to the edge of space, even when its legs are carrying something as heavy as, say, a NEXT. It has a long tail with bony plates along her spine, as well as three prehensile pincers on the end of the tail; the tail is a potent weapon that can be used as a club or claw against opponents. The facial structure of this creature is made up of a long neck, plated and ridged, and its head includes a large, powerful jaw and is marked by a signature crest on between the forehead and snout. The golden dots on the crest may look like eyes, but the real eyes are behind the crest on the side of the head. The crest is curved in the front, with a long, sturdy spike protruding from the back for protection of the eyes. The bottom jaw is capable of splitting in two to spit from a pouch below the maw. Its tongue has a flowering and bio luminescent structure which it apparently uses either as a grasping mechanism or sensing organ similar in function to a snake's vomeronasal organ. It also has a sac under its neck that can be engorged to spit out a blue, extremely corrosive acid, as seen when it melts the thick armor of a NEXT and when it easily liquefies the side of an office building.

The video record then shows the Kaiju spraying its corrosive acid on the NEXT fighting it, burning through the metal like it's nothing. The helicopter flies around and lowers to see the Kaiju sprays its acid again on the pilot, liquefying him within seconds. With no pilot to control it, the NEXT falls onto its back in the harbor.

May feels a little bit sick after watching the recording.

Computer: "As you can see, this Kaiju poses a serious threat. Therefore, the governor of Oregon has requested we take out this Kaiju named Otachi. Its last confirmed location was moving up the West Coast, its destination is unknown but it's crucial you find and kill it. Since this is a Category Four Kaiju, it's recommended you take an ally with you. It will increase your chances of returning alive. That's the mission. The Oregon governor will be extremely happy to know you eliminated this threat. He's even prepared a substantial payment should you prevail." The computer shuts down and the two pilots head for the locker room to put their g suits on. After that, they rush to the hanger and enter their NEXTs.

The systems boot up as the cockpit closes. The eye of Blue Reaper and Merrygate light up and the two head out to engage Otachi.

The journey toward the State of Oregon is silent until May breaks it.

May: "There's something different about you, Leo. You seem more confident and less tense. Did your interactions with Gojira on Monster Island have something to do with it?"
