"Kelce." A guard tapped on the bars and I opened my eyes. "Get up, trial's ready."
About damn time. I'd been waiting for almost two days, and I couldn't wait for this to be over so I could get back to Taylor. She needed me right now. She was hurting.
Getting to my feet, I moved to face away from the bars and put my hands through so they could cuff me again. Then I was led down, processed, and walked through a door into a courtroom. I lifted my head to see Taylor sitting in the front row behind the gate, Sabrina right next to her. The two girls were clutching each other's hands tightly, and Sabrina's eyes met mine. We had a silent conversation, and I established that she was taking care of Taylor, that my girl was broken but not alone.
"Mr Kelce."
"Sorry." I mumbled, moving from where I stood frozen. I sat down where I was supposed to, my eyes locked on where Taylor sat. She'd been crying, I could tell, and she wore one of my hoodies like she'd needed comfort.
Our eyes met and her bottom lip trembled. My heart broke at the look on her face, wishing I could make her pain go away. But it was either this or watching her go to prison, and I couldn't let that happen. Not when she was hurting so much. She was broken.
We all rose when the judge came in, and I spared a glance at Danny, who was sitting with his lawyer, a bandage over his nose. He didn't look at me.
"Mr Kelce." The judge said once he'd sat down, and I nodded. "You've been charged with assaulting Daniel Wright outside his workplace on Saturday evening. Mr Wright sustained a broken nose and severe bruising around his neck." He checked the file. "No previous convictions, you've got a clean record. Would you like to defend your actions?"
"No your honor." I shook my head, and the judge scrutinized me.
"Alright." He looked away. "How do you plead?"
"Guilty." I said, and Taylor let out a little sob that she quickly stifled. The judge spared her a look but didn't say anything.
"Mr Kelce, you're sentenced to two months in prison for assault." He banged the gavel. "Case dismissed."
Taylor let out a whimper and pressed a hand to her mouth, and I could see how much she wanted to jump to her feet. I shot a look at the guard and he sighed, motioning for me to go ahead. Getting up, I moved and Taylor let go of Sabrina's hand. She stumbled through the gate and ran to me, throwing her arms around my neck and started to cry as she buried her face in my neck. I couldn't hug her back because of my hands cuffed but I pressed my face into her hair, kissing her forehead.
"Please don't leave me baby, don't leave me." Taylor begged, clinging to me. "I can't be alone."
"You won't kitten, you won't be alone." I soothed, looking over my shoulder. "Look can I have my hands?" I asked the guard. "Just for a minute. I need to say goodbye."
He nodded, waiting until Danny and his lawyer left before coming over. He unlocked my cuffs and I immediately held Taylor close, wrapping my arms around her back as tight as I could. Her feet left the ground as I hugged her, rubbing her back.
"I'll be back soon okay?" I murmured to her.
"I can't do it without you!" Taylor sobbed.
"Shh, it's okay." I soothed, trying so hard not to cry. Taylor needed me to be strong for her right now. "Kitten I love you so much." I told her. "You're my whole world, and I'll be home really soon okay?"
