Taylor

Over the following few weeks I felt so much lighter. Who I'd killed didn't bring back my baby, but it made me feel like I'd taken some horrible people out of the world so they'd never harm anyone else.

I flourished in my new position. Travis lifted me up to his level, which I hadn't expected, but of course he did. We were partners, and we worked together perfectly. It was effortless with him.

"Morning Taylor." Sabrina smiled at me as I walked into the office, without Travis for once.

"Hey." I smiled back. "Travis asked me to pass this on." I took the crumpled note with a phone number on it Travis had given me last night. He'd gone out of the city for a few days, leaving me to take charge for a while.

"Oh great, thanks." Sabrina took it and placed it by her computer. "I put a few files on your desk, and there's a car coming to pick you up at eleven for your meeting." Oh right. Since Travis was away, I was stepping in to have a talk with a contact. He hadn't been specific about who I was meeting, but I wasn't surprised.

Moving past Selena, I went into my office and flicked on the light. I had slipped so easily into my new role that it felt like muscle memory after only a few weeks. Sinking down into my chair, I turned on my computer and flicked open the new file waiting for me.

I worked for an hour before my phone beeped, and I paused to reach for it, recognizing Travis' custom notification sound I'd set. He'd texted me.

Travis: Hey there little kitten, look in the brown bag in your bottom drawer. It's for your meeting today, just trust me

Me: I always trust you

Travis: Send me a picture ;)

Smiling to myself, I reached down and opened my bottom drawer, taking out the brown paper bag stashed there. Tipping the contents into my lap, I put the bag aside. A pair of plain white heels and a simple white slip dress. So I needed to look sleek. Noted.

Getting to my feet, I locked my office door and changed into the dress and heels. I tugged the fabric down so it sat right and then looked at myself in the mirror. Reaching into another drawer for a spare hairbrush I kept there, I brushed my hair up into a smooth ponytail, letting my bangs fall over my forehead and letting the wispy little baby hairs frame my face. Once I was satisfied with how I looked, I snapped a picture and sent it to Travis.

Travis: Fucking hell kitten

Travis: You look so gorgeous

Me: I'll wear it for you when you get home ;)

Travis: Oh please do, I'll have so much fun taking it off

Travis: Let me know how the meeting goes okay, good luck, I love you

Me: I love you to <3

Checking the time, I closed down my computer and left the office. There was a sleek black tinted car waiting outside and I got in, nodding to the driver as I closed the door. The car pulled away and I checked my phone again before placing it on the seat, knowing I wouldn't need it. I had a tracker on my bracelet and a panic button if I needed, and I knew I'd have eyes on me for protection.

"Is this where it is?" I asked when the car stopped, leaning forwards to look out of the window. We'd stopped outside one of the old theaters in town, one that had gold finishings and red chairs, the whole thing. I loved it, and had visited a few times. I'd even convinced Travis to go once, and he'd admitted it was pretty cool. In my opinion, it was the most beautiful building ever to exist.

"Yes ma'am." The driver nodded.

"Okay, thank you." I left my phone and moved to get out of the car, giving my dress a quick glance as I strode confidently towards the theater. It wasn't open this early in the day but a doorman was there, and he nodded in greeting at he opened the door for me. "Thank you." I murmured, ducking past and walking inside.
