[Rina's POV]
The aftermath of our confrontation with the Lee clan left me breathless. As the adrenaline faded, reality set in. We had just been part of a violent showdown, and I was still trying to wrap my head around what had happened.
We retreated to a safe house, the weight of the night heavy in the air. Jay was pacing, his expression unreadable.
"You did good," he said finally, breaking the silence. "You stood your ground."
I shrugged, still feeling the adrenaline coursing through me. "I didn't have much of a choice. It was fight or flight."
"Exactly," he replied, stopping to face me. "And you chose to fight."
I felt a rush of pride at his words. "But I didn't expect it to escalate like that. What if someone had gotten hurt?"
"That's the risk we take," he said, his tone serious. "This life isn't safe. You need to learn that quickly."
I crossed my arms, frustration bubbling up. "I know that! But I'm still processing everything. It's not easy."
He stepped closer, his intensity palpable. "You're tougher than you realize. Just don't let your emotions cloud your judgment."
"I won't," I said, trying to sound more confident than I felt. "But I want to know more about this world. If I'm going to be part of it, I need to understand."
His eyes softened slightly. "I can teach you. Just remember, trust is hard to come by in our line of work."
"I get it," I replied, a spark of determination igniting within me. "But I won't be a burden."
Jay smiled, a genuine expression that made my heart race. "I don't think of you as a burden. You're proving to be an asset."
As the night wore on, we fell into a comfortable rhythm, discussing strategies and the inner workings of the clan. I could see the passion in his eyes, and it drew me in.
"Why do you do this?" I asked, curiosity getting the better of me. "What drives you?"
He hesitated, a shadow crossing his face. "It's complicated. Family expectations, power—sometimes, it's hard to know what I really want."
I nodded, sensing the weight of his words. "You don't have to carry it alone, you know."
For a moment, we just stood there, caught in an unspoken understanding. I was beginning to realize that beneath his tough exterior, there was a person struggling with his own demons.
