It does not pain you to betray Djir or Raithe's trust.. You know that Raithe is lying, for one. Djir is an accomplice and you know with one-hundred percent certainty that he wants you. It is likely that the only reason they let you go at all is because Raithe did not realize you found out about the subtle barb on Kara's neck before she removed it. In her mind you are in the palm of her hand. Djir is slightly more complicated. He seemed to know that you could easily betray them, and likely would. He does not seem to care much for her plans and was ready to upturn them for you, but he is too much of a wildcard to fully trust, and the implications of trusting and siding with him are too great. It is certain that in this instance the Kingdom is your best shot at freeing Kara.
You look over the two you had only seen briefly so long ago. You vaguely remember that the Knight first greeted you in uniform. She still has the same blue coat with a white blouse but the cut is a bit lower, showing more cleavage off than is probably practical. In addition, rather than pants she switched to a short skirt with stockings and long heeled boots. She a bit more style over function now. Something you would not have pegged for her.
Jeane is very much the same as you believe you remember. Her complicated, gothic black outfit with white stockings and heels seems out of place on the battlefield but just as pleasing as it was when you first saw her. Once you are done inspecting both of them briefly you push any dirty or unnecessary thoughts to the back of your mind. You have a mission. Or, at least you had one. You need to find out if you should follow it, before anything else happens.
"I do have something to tell you. But first I have something to ask you." There is one thing you need to be certain of. You are not a loyalist and the plight of the 'freedom fighters' Djir and Raithe do appeal to you in a vague, moralistic sense. But that is only if they were giving you the full picture. Teuta and Jeane exchange a look. One is quite understanding while the elf is indignant.
"Beg pardon? Ask us? We are the ones who should be asking questions, my boy." Jeane utters in annoyance.
Teata exhales lightly and waves her hand at the elf in a motion that begs her to calm down. "Relax, Jeane. You can ask whatever you like, Hero."
"Are you all invaders here?" You ask directly. No point in beating around the bush.
Jeane looks taken aback, while Teuta continues to remain calm. "We are not." She offers as a brief look of confusion washes over her.
"Why would you think that?" She is less offended than Jeane and you can tell she just wishes to know where you heard such a thing."Didn't this land belong to-" You blush and stop yourself. You are certainly pushing it in front of a Royal Knight and a high-ranking Mage of the Academy.
Teuta regards you rather seriously at the implication of what you added to your question. "Belong to... Whom?"
"Demonkine." You finish laying it all out and feel a tinge of regret as a disgusted look washes over Jeane at the mention of the nation.
Jeane throws her hands up, turns around and walks to the back of the tent. She plants her hands on her hips and appears to be venting off in a corner.
"Demonkine? Absurd! Demonkine..." She utters in disbelief as she kicks around some dirt. She turns briefly and addresses the Knight.
"Teuta. 'Royal Knight', you must know that's grounds for-"Teuta exhales. In contrast to the elf she is not upset, just a little perplexed. While holding up a hand to halt Jeane's latest thought she retains a soft, understanding tone while responding in paradoxically harsh terms that seem to agree with the mage at least somewhat.
"Suggesting that, or even implying such a thing is grounds for punishment in certain circumstances. Who told you this?"You intend to hold your ground and firmly say. "I am going to need an answer before I say anything. Is that an issue?" You and Teuta become embroiled in a very short staring contest where neither wishes to blink. She is the first to break.
