You saw the orc staring at you with a very smug look that felt unearned. All he did was instigate the two of you a little. It aggravated you. It was not even difficult to exploit Jeane's ego, you knew this well enough already. That was not anything to do with the orc, you decided, that was entirely to do with her. Jeane was far too cocky, far to confident and surprisingly inept in anything that did not have to do with magic. It frustrated you to no end that she could not simply listen to you in this one area. It was very simple: Stay away from the orc, stay close to you, do not endanger yourself in obvious ploys. You knew these rules well. Instead of that direct statement you felt your frustration finally bubble up into a few derisive words.
"You stupid woman. I am trying to help you!" After saying that you gritted your teeth. The orc was still staring at you both but your eyes were glued to her. Usually you would feel regret after an outburst like that but instead you only felt relief at the sudden release of emotion. The catharsis of letting out your frustration felt good. It was hard to be reasonable but it was very easy to be emotional and that sensation of what almost felt akin to pleasure made it incredibly easy.Jeane stared daggers at you. She spoke calmly but there was a silent rage underpinning her tone. "It goes without saying that the arrangement I spoke about is off." The elf turned up her elegant nose at you and stepped back towards the orc, though it became clear that the direction was unintentional. You felt relief as she felt his presence near her and quickly stepped away. Jeane was still visibly disgusted by the man. There was no way that would change. You were secure in that fact, at least.
""What's wrong?" He snorted, amused by her maneuvering.
Jeane narrowed her eyes at him. "Just because the Hero and I are not on good terms does not mean you and I are. You are still an ugly instigator and a disgusting Pig." She belted off insults and seemed to feel better with each one until finally she calmed down.
"Of course, of course." The orc nodded slowly, then added offhandedly.
"Slow, weak little elf girls with weak brains should stay away from orcs. It's for your own good, honestly." Jeane's face went bright red.
"Your man over there is right. It's dangerous. You're bound to get caught, even if it's 'safe' in here. I can't make you do anything you don't want to do, but it makes sense that you got no confidence in yourself." He chuckled."I get why he's got no confidence in you, either."
You gulped and took a step forward. "Listen, Jeane-"
The orc interjected with a loud snort. "Caving in? You should. This girl is probably the best you can do. Better just let her walk all over you so that you aren't alone forever." He grinned widely.
You felt strange. After giving in to anger so easily you also felt yourself surrendering to worry as well but the feeling was not good. It was actually quite crushing and made you crave the catharsis of the previous release. Your sense kicked in after being brought low by the comments. Jeane was in fact very good. You could tell she was not malicious or evil. She had a deep interest in the ethics of your relationship and cared about your feelings. She was very unlike Kara in many important respects. Even if you did not want to be with her, you still did not wish to lose her. So the orc's words bore deep and got to you, playing off that worry and anxiety. You felt yourself shrinking emotionally before the duo.
"Jeane... I'm sorry." You caved.Jeane responded favorably, of course. She was not particularly vindictive or cruel so a genuine display like the one you gave was obviously going to affect her. As she opened her mouth to speak however the orc slid closer to her from her blind spot and spoke again.
"Does that apology make up for him disrespecting your experience? I think he treats you like another girl his age, even though you're waaay older." The orc commented.
"Sure you don't need more than a bitchy apology? You should get promises, commitments." You were sure there was no way she would fall for that after your display of weakness. You were sure she would value you laying yourself bare at least a little.
