Djir Cackles. Being a gnoll, something was always faintly amusing. In this case it was particularly entertaining, as evidence by the fact that it was a cackle, and not just a mild chuckle.
"An expedition with four beautiful ladies! I feel like I'm the protagonist in one of those old stories." He jokes. You do bristle a bit at that comment, but Raithe is not here to correct him. "There's only-" You stop yourself and consider quickly that Luire is not completely up front to the group about his gender yet. He has not mentioned it at all one way or another, and it would be awkward to broach the subject now. But, he also has not lied yet, except by omission. You look back at him. He is probably among the most uncomfortable in the group, but trading a glance with you calms him down. He understands your intent and offers a light nod.
"Three females in this group, Djir.""Like I said. Humans and elves are small and woman-like, regardless of what you're carrying. It's exactly my type. I can't stand gnoll women, actually." He comments conversationally.
"A bit too-""Who asked?" Vura muttered. She was still taking the lead in the party, as per the groups organization.
Djir does not mind the passive-aggressive remark at all. In fact, he takes it in stride. You get the impression that he enjoys the back and forth to being ignored. "Anyway, as the only real male member of this party I'll be sure to protect you ladies." He winks at you.
"Great." You groan. Jokes aside, the incident with Heilan and Djir that you unfortunately became a part of changed things slightly. You do find yourself looking at him in a new, unfamiliar light. Compared to you he is simply built different. Not just strong, but he looks strong. His bestial appearance does not offer even an ounce of femininity compared to yours, which despite not being outwardly feminine, human males and females must look similar to someone like him. That is something you have to admit. It makes you wonder what gnoll women are like. You could ask, but it is not a conversation you are ready to have.
You had been walking for a full day at this point. You came to the conclusion pretty easily that hanging around the den was basically just spinning your wheels. Scouting out a human camp could potentially bring outside aid into the desperate situation you are in. It requires investigation, however. You know better than anyone that not all humans are friendly.
"When do you think we'll find this place?" You ask."Should be around here somewhere." Djir claims, glancing around.
"If you know roughly where it is, why do you need our help. Strong guy like you probably doesn't need our protection, right?"You tease.
He chuckles, apparently pleased by the jab. "That's right. But I'm not great with disguises. My snout pokes out from hoods and I don't fit into normal human clothes, you see. So-"
"He wants us to get into the camp and investigate for him. You know... For whatever they're planning." Vura interjects, looking at you with a raised brow. She seems to be asking without words; are we actually doing this? You give her an uncertain look back as you decide how to respond.
"I understand. When we find this place we'll make it inside and you'll do... What?"
"I'll be around, princess. If any of you need your 'knight' in shining armor you only need to shout my name." Djir grins, waiting for your reaction intently.
"Okay, we're not making that a thing." You utter in pure annoyance. He does not look displeased by the result of what he said.
"What? Princess?" He asks innocently, managing to hold back laughter.
Djir gives an exaggerated shrug. "Fine. I'll just have to let someone else be my princess." He turns his large head to look very obviously at Heilan. She gulps and averts her gaze awkwardly. You know that you are technically not supposed to know about the things they did. It would be strange for you to not react. Perhaps, you think, not reacting could make things worse. Heilan is not his, or at least she does not appear to be his completely his. You step back and drape your arm over Heilan's shoulder protectively to show that you are still acting the part of a protective male in this party.
