There was no easy way out of the situation without upsetting Jeane. She was convinced that she could handle herself, and you had to contend with the possibility that she could. She was a talented mage and her haughtiness was not without some backing. You noticed the way the orc had been acting around her the whole time. He was 'encouraging.' The orc was undoubtedly manipulating her by using her confidence. He said things to get under your skin while endearing himself to her and it was working, frustratingly enough. Knowing all that, the only way forward from this position while still maintaining good rapport with Jeane was trust.
"Alright. I trust you, Jeane." She smiled and seemed relieved."Well look at that. She does have a brain. Orcs aren't dangerous to smart girls. We're actually pretty harmless." The male blustered.
"What!?" Luire exclaimed. You pull him back further and cover his mouth. Unlike with Heilan, his small frame was something you could comfortably control. At least, when all he was was a ball of rage. You whispered something in his ear that at least got the elf to stop for a moment.
It was not blind trust and it certainly did not mean you had to trust the orc. No, all Jeane wanted was for you to trust her. In a way it was somewhat ideal, since now Jeane would be closer to you while being closer to the orc. If you pushed her away she would be off somewhere doing who knows what. To you, the most important things were keeping an eye on the orc while he was allowed to be close, keeping an eye on Jeane, and giving her more reason to be with you rather than him. Then after all that, keeping everyone else in your party happy and out of trouble for the week. It was infinitely more difficult than it would have been if you simply reasoned with her from the start, but it would have to be done.
You released Luire. "We should head back for now, Jeane, Luire." You looked to the orc, not wanting to suggest that he come back. He was free to, if he wanted.
"Well hold on. It's orc education time. Jeanie mentioned she never likes to leave a lesson unfinished." He offered while casually shooting you a knowing wink. It was quite possible that the orc knew that you knew yet still carried on, as though it did not matter in the least.
"You did catch us in the middle of something. If it's all the same, I'm going to stay here for a while longer if you two want to leave." Jeane stated calmly.
Surprisingly it was Luire who spoke first, whispering into your ear. "This dumb woman is going to get herself orked. Do you really need to keep an eye on her and watch it happen?"
You return in a quiet tone. "The idea is, if I'm around I might be able to stop her from getting orked."
"Optimistic, but I understand. Is it truly 'trusting' her if you are needing to keep watch?"
You shook your head. "No, it isn't." Luire was satisfied with that and stood firm beside you.
"We can join, can't we?"
He opened his arms in a welcoming gesture and pointed out nearby seats that had you and Luire gathering around him rather closely. Jeane's seat was of course right beside him, as you saw. "Of course!"
You and Luire both sat down with Jeane retaining her seat next to the large male. "Please continue." She requested.
"As I was saying, unlike your kind we don't slaughter captives. We barely even do war, really, unless we're attacked." Luire rolled his eyes and exhaled in response to that. You could tell that it was probably complete bullshit. Jeane was not exactly 'eating it up' either, but she was taking it in rather academically.
"Got something to comment on?" He pressed Luire to speak up.
"You still go to war, you just do it differently and the result is just as bad for those you war with." Luire spoke mostly to Jeane in an attempt to counter the propaganda.
