You lift, then reel back your leg to kick Heilan in the upper chest. There is no malice or hate behind the blow. It is all just to stop what she is doing right away. It does not seem to hurt her, or affect her much, but it moves her a little and does what you intended it to do. It makes her stop. She gives you a confused look.
"I thought we were on the same side?""Obviously not!" You exclaim.
Heilan frowns. "But-"
"I'm NOT going along with this." You considered your options. You are essentially guaranteeing that Djir will be a problem in the upcoming conflict. In that same sense, Heilan is a glaring issue, as well.
"I don't think you can travel with us anymore." You add suddenly. She looks hurt. "I'm just trying to help you."
"Look, I'm sorry. This is mostly my fault, but you are obviously extremely devoted to Djir, right?" As you speak you slide away and pull your pants up. Heilan nods.
"So, when a fight breaks out you aren't exactly going to be a help to us, are you?" She looks down and does not give an answer, which is about as good as a confirmation for you.
"You're on his side?" You can tell that she agrees with that. She argues passionately and begins to move towards you again. You step back to match her. "He doesn't actually want me. He wants you."
You feel a growing frustration. "So shouldn't that tell you something about where your loyalty is misplaced? If you went to him would he give a shit about you?"
She shifts in place uncomfortably. "No? I don't know. I can't help it. I'm supposed to look after you. If I don't do that I'm useless to him."
You feel guilt wash over you. This is all, after all, mostly your fault. You could not have guessed what would have happened as a result of triggering her more negative traits, but you could have guessed that it would weaken her to some extent for someone that was not you.
"I'm not on his side." Her ears droop as you say that. Her curled tail stopped wagging minutes ago.
"But you're supposed to look after me?""Yeah?" She is definitely confused and conflicted, but it is not out of any obligation to you. You come to term with that quickly. It is due to the conflict in her feelings and the explicit orders she was given.
"He doesn't want you and probably wouldn't approve of you leaving me, even though I don't want to be on his side of things, right?" You reason. She nods.
"So we are stuck together. Because I can not bring myself to abandon you." You admit. She is touched, but definitely not enough to sway her.
"But also because the only thing you can do is keep trying to fulfill his orders." You can tell Heilan is following what you are saying so far.
"Even if it means not interfering when we eventually clash.""I don't know about that." She states hesitantly. The thought makes her uncomfortable without any need for you to read her emotions. It is on it's face discomforting to her.
"But you know for a fact that he wouldn't take you, except to get to me." She nods.
"I will one-hundred percent not take you back if you oppose the party or my plans." She catches the implication. The paradox in what you are saying. The ultimate betrayal of Djir's orders would be to put herself in a position where she could not be close to you; which would mean helping him directly to hinder you. At least, that is the hole you managed to lead her into logically. You know it is a method that could only ever work on a smart girl. Heilan is, after all, not dumb. She is just unfortunate. She confirms what you are saying with a nod. "I get what you're saying. I think you're right. I'll be good." You do not think she is lying. She at the very least believes she is genuine. Whether reason will hold up to any direct order or intent from Djir is another matter. However, you believe you have a grasp on him, as well. You think that your reasoning especially holds when it comes to him. If you are right, he shares it. Djir is, after all, also quite a bit smarter than he lets on.
