The sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, casting the fields of Rohan in warm golds and pinks. The soft breeze rustled the grass, and Edoras felt peaceful after the long day. You were wandering through the village streets, taking a moment for yourself, away from the discussions that had filled the day. Legolas was with Aragorn and Gimli, talking strategy with King Théoden and preparing for the next steps in the growing conflict. You didn’t need to be there, so you took the opportunity to clear your head.

As you passed by a small cluster of homes, you noticed a tiny figure darting between the houses—a boy, no older than seven. He looked lost and scared, his face streaked with tears.

You couldn’t just walk by.

“Are you okay?” you asked softly, walking over to him.

The boy froze, his big eyes wide with fear. “I—I can’t find my mama,” he said, voice trembling.

You crouched down to his level, offering him a gentle smile. “It’s alright, I’ll help you find her. What’s your name?”

“Toren,” he sniffled, wiping his nose with his sleeve.

“Alright, Toren. Let’s go find your mama,” you said, reaching out a hand. Without hesitation, he took it, his tiny fingers curling around yours as you led him through the village.

You talked with him to keep his mind off his fear, asking about the games he liked to play and the stories he enjoyed. Slowly, he started to relax, his soft voice growing stronger as he spoke of his pet lamb and his adventures running through the fields.

Eventually, you reached the square, where a woman stood calling his name. “Toren! Toren!”

“Mama!” he shouted, breaking into a run toward her.

The woman turned, her face a mask of worry that instantly melted into relief when she saw him. “Oh, thank the gods,” she murmured, pulling him into a tight hug. Then she looked up at you, her eyes filled with gratitude. “Thank you. I was so scared.”

“It was nothing,” you said, brushing it off. “I’m just glad he’s safe.”

Just as you were about to walk away, you felt a familiar presence behind you—quiet, like a shadow in the evening light. Legolas. You hadn’t even noticed him approach.

“You handled that well,” he said, his voice soft but filled with admiration.

You turned, surprised to find him standing so close. “It was nothing,” you said again, still feeling a bit shy about the attention. "He was just scared. I couldn’t leave him like that."

Legolas’s smile deepened, but his gaze was more than just warm—it was full of something deeper. “You’re good with children,” he said quietly. “You always have been. It’s... it’s rare to see someone so naturally caring. It’s one of the many things I admire about you.”

Before you could respond, the sound of footsteps approaching caught your attention. Aragorn and Gimli had just returned from their meeting with King Théoden. Aragorn’s eyes immediately landed on you, a soft smile tugging at his lips as he looked between you and Legolas. Gimli, ever the straightforward dwarf, shot a look at Legolas and raised an eyebrow.

“Well, well, look at you two,” Gimli said with a grin, his voice teasing. “Quite the tender moment you’ve got going on there.”

Legolas’s expression was unreadable, but you could see a flicker of amusement in his eyes. “Gimli, not now,” Legolas said with a small shake of his head.

Aragorn walked over, a knowing smile on his face as he joined the conversation. “It’s good to see you, (Y/N),” he said warmly. “And I must say, that was a very kind thing you did. The boy was lucky you found him.”

“Couldn’t leave him wandering alone,” you replied with a shrug. “I’m just glad I could help.”

Aragorn studied you for a moment before turning to Legolas, his gaze thoughtful. “She’s always been good with people, hasn’t she?” he asked, his voice low enough that only Legolas could hear.

Legolas met Aragorn’s eyes, his expression unreadable for a beat before he nodded. “She has a way of calming those around her,” he said, almost like he was talking more to himself than to Aragorn. “It’s... impressive.”

Gimli, who hadn’t missed a thing, leaned in and grinned. “Aye, it’s not every day you see Legolas so caught up in admiration,” he said, nudging Aragorn with his elbow. “Maybe the elf’s finally realized how lucky he is, eh?”

You felt your cheeks heat up at their teasing. Legolas, ever the composed elf, shot Gimli a look that was all too familiar. “I know exactly how lucky I am, Gimli,” he said, his voice filled with quiet affection as his eyes met yours. "And I’m not about to forget it."

You smiled, your heart fluttering at the way he looked at you. There was something about the way he said it—something deep and genuine, like he was speaking from the heart.

Aragorn glanced at Legolas, a hint of understanding passing between the two of them. “It’s good to see you both happy,” he said, his voice soft, a rare sincerity in his tone.

Gimli grinned, clapping Legolas on the back. “Aye, but let’s not get too sentimental. We’ve got more pressing matters at hand, don't we?”

Legolas didn’t respond right away, his gaze still on you. Then he turned to Aragorn, his expression serious again. “We do,” he said, his tone shifting back to the leader you were used to hearing. “But it’s a good reminder that even in times like these, there are things worth fighting for.”

The moment between the four of you was quiet for a beat. Then Aragorn, sensing the mood shift, nodded. "True enough. Let's get ready for what’s to come."

As the group turned to leave, you lingered behind for a moment, catching Legolas’s eye again. He offered you a small, tender smile.

"You would make a great mother, (Y/N)," he said quietly, just for you to hear.

The words made your heart skip a beat. "Legolas," you began, but he stopped you with a soft chuckle.

“Think about it,” he said, his voice almost playful now. “It’s something I’ve considered."

You could feel your cheeks heat again, but you smiled back, your heart soaring at the thought. No matter what lay ahead, you knew you’d face it together—stronger, with hope, and with love.

The future felt a little brighter in that moment.
