You could barely believe it. Aragorn was king now. The day before had been packed with celebrations, cheers, and the most incredible feast you’d ever seen. And now it was morning—or, well, probably almost afternoon, but who could tell? You’d slept in for what felt like the first time in ages.
You made your way through the castle’s winding halls until you reached one of the balconys. The second you stepped outside, you saw him standing there, looking out over the city, lost in thought. For a split second, he looked just like the Aragorn you’d first met—just a ranger with that scruffy, mysterious look. But then he turned and saw you, and his face softened in a way that made your heart do that embarrassing little flip it always did around him.
“Good morning, my queen,” he teased, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Finally decided to wake up?”
You rolled your eyes, walking up beside him. “I’m not the one who was up all night meeting fancy nobles. How’s that going, Your Highness?”
He chuckled, and it was this deep, soft sound that made you smile automatically. “It’s better with you around,” he said, slipping his hand into yours like it was the most natural thing in the world.
You looked out over Minas Tirith with him, letting the quiet settle around you both. “This is all just… really weird,” you admitted, squeezing his hand. “We were, like, just on the road, covered in mud, eating questionable stew.” You laughed, glancing at him. “And now look at us. Look at you.”
Aragorn just shook his head, smiling that gentle smile of his. “I’d say, ‘Look at us.’ None of this would be possible without you, (Y/N). Without the whole Fellowship. But especially you.”
Your heart skipped, and you looked up at him, realizing he was completely serious. Which, honestly, was overwhelming—he’d always been so humble, even when everyone looked to him as their leader. And now, here he was, saying that you had meant that much to him.
Before you could figure out what to say, he reached up and brushed a lock of hair back from your face. “There were times on this journey I thought I might lose you,” he said, his voice soft. “And… there were times I wondered if you should’ve left. To be safe. But… you never did.”
You shrugged, hoping he couldn’t tell how fast your heart was beating. “I mean, someone had to keep an eye on you and make sure you didn’t get lost.” You grinned, trying to lighten the moment, and he laughed again, shaking his head.
“Stay with me,” he said, looking at you in that way that made you feel like there was no one else in the world. “The shadows are gone, and I want you here. With me. As my queen. As my love.”
You didn’t even try to answer with words—you just leaned in and kissed him, your hands resting on his shoulders as his arms came around you. His touch was warm and steady, and the world seemed to fall away for a moment. When you finally pulled back, both of you were laughing softly, like this whole thing was something out of a dream.
And maybe it was, but if it was, you didn’t want to wake up anytime soon.
