The night air was crisp and cold as you huddled around a flickering campfire outside the cave, the stars twinkling overhead. The dwarves were on a mission to reclaim the Lonely Mountain, and despite the looming dangers, there was a sense of excitement in the air. You sat on a log, knees pulled up to your chest, watching the flames dance.
Fili approached, his golden hair glinting in the firelight, and plopped down next to you. “Hey, Y/N. Mind if I sit?”
“Not at all,” you replied, trying to hide your smile. “I could use some company.”
He leaned back against the log, looking at the fire. “Who thought such a journey would be so exhausting."
You chuckled, glancing at the other dwarves who were gathered around, sharing stories and snacks. “I think we’ve earned a little downtime after everything we’ve been through.”
“Agreed.” Fili looked at you, his blue eyes sparkling. “What do you think is waiting for us inside? I mean, aside from Smaug, of course.”
You shivered at the thought of the dragon. “Hopefully some treasure. I wouldn’t mind finding a few shiny things to take home.”
Just then, Kili bounded over, an over-the-top grin on his face. “Did I hear someone mention treasure? Count me in! What’s the plan, oh fearless leader?” He flopped down on your other side, looking between you and Fili.
“First, we need to survive our next encounter with Smaug,” Fili said, shooting Kili a playful glare. “And then we can think about treasure.”
“Oh, come on! We’re brave dwarves! We can take him!” Kili said, flexing his muscles exaggeratedly. “And if we can’t, at least we’ll go out with a bang!”
Dwalin, who was nearby, overheard and smirked. “You think so? Just remember, bravery doesn’t always equal success, Kili. You might want to work on that strategy a bit more.”
“Hey, I’ll take my chances! It’s more fun than being scared all the time!” Kili replied, his enthusiasm unwavering.
Balin, sitting across the fire, chimed in. “As long as we stick together and have a plan, we should be fine. We’re a family, and we’ll face whatever comes our way.”
“Right!” Fili nodded, his gaze returning to you. “And having Y/N with us makes it even better.”
Your heart raced at his words, but before you could respond, Bofur interrupted with a loud laugh. “So, who’s going to sing us a song about bravery and treasures? I think we could use a little entertainment!”
Kili jumped to his feet. “I’ll sing! But only if Y/N joins me. Come on, it’ll be fun!”
You shook your head, laughing. “I’m not sure I’m ready for that!”
“Don’t be shy! I’ll be right there with you!” Kili encouraged, winking at you.
“I’ll take that as a challenge,” you said, feeling a rush of confidence. “But only if Fili joins us too!”
“Me? Sing?” Fili raised an eyebrow, pretending to be shocked. “Alright, but only if we keep it short. I have a reputation to maintain!”
“Yeah, right!” Kili snorted. “You’re a softie at heart.”
The playful banter continued, and soon you were all laughing, the tension of the mission slipping away. Fili stood up, extending his hand to you. “Alright, Y/N, let’s show them how it’s done!”
You took his hand, feeling warmth spread through you as you both stepped into the firelight. The other dwarves gathered around, eager to see what you would do.
“Okay, here goes nothing!” you declared, trying to sound brave. “Kili, you start us off!”
With a grin, Kili began to hum a catchy tune, and you and Fili jumped in, clumsily following his lead. The words came to you in a mix of laughter and uncertainty, but you didn’t care. You were having fun, and the dwarves were cheering you on.
After a few verses, Fili caught your eye and suddenly leaned in closer, singing directly to you. “With friends by our side, we’ll fight through the night, treasure awaits, and it’ll all be alright!”
Your heart raced as you sang along, the warmth of the fire and the joy of the moment wrapping around you like a blanket. The other dwarves clapped along, and even Dwalin couldn’t help but chuckle at your goofy performance.
As the song wrapped up and you both finished with a flourish, you found yourself breathless and grinning from ear to ear. The dwarves erupted into laughter and applause.
“Bravo!” Kili exclaimed, giving you both a thumbs up. “You two are a dynamic duo!”
Fili turned to you, his smile wide. “See? That wasn’t so bad, was it?”
“No, it was actually really fun,” you admitted, feeling lighter than you had in days. “Thanks for making me do it.”
“Anytime,” he said softly, his gaze lingering on yours for a moment. “You make everything more fun.”
The fire crackled between you, and for a heartbeat, everything else faded away. You felt an unspoken connection building, a shared understanding that something special was blossoming between you two.
Kili clapped you both on the shoulders, breaking the moment. “Alright, enough singing! Let’s get back to planning our grand heist! Treasure awaits!”
As the night continued with laughter and plans for the journey ahead, you felt grateful to be part of this incredible company. And with Fili by your side, you knew that whatever challenges awaited you at the Lonely Mountain, you would face them together.
