As Namjoon stood by the window, lost in his thoughts, the door creaked open, and Jungkook stepped into the office, a playful grin plastered across his face.
"What's with the serious face, hyung?" he teased, leaning casually against the doorframe. "You look like someone stole your favorite toy."
Namjoon's expression shifted from pensive to guarded. "Jungkook, we need to talk."
Jungkook's brow furrowed slightly, the smirk fading. "Is this about Nari? Did she say something?"
Namjoon hesitated.
He wanted to protect both of them but knew that any mention of Nari would ignite Jungkook's stubbornness. "It's not just about her. It's about everything happening around us. We can't ignore the past. Not now."
Jungkook crossed his arms, his expression hardening. "You've been talking to her, haven't you? What did she tell you?"
"Nothing I didn't already know," Namjoon replied, trying to keep his tone calm. "But I'm worried that your feelings for her are clouding your judgment. This isn't a game, Jungkook. The stakes are too high."
"What are you saying?" Jungkook demanded, his voice rising. "That I should just forget about her? That I should walk away? I can't do that. She's different."
Namjoon took a deep breath, searching for the right words. "I'm not saying you should walk away. I'm saying you need to be careful. If anyone finds out about her connection to her father-"
"Her father?" Jungkook interrupted, his eyes narrowing. "You're still hung up on that? That's ancient history, Namjoon! Nari is not her father. She's her own person."
Namjoon's frustration boiled beneath the surface. "And that's exactly what makes her a target! Do you think our enemies care about her being 'her own person'? They'll use her against you, Jungkook. They won't hesitate."
Jungkook's jaw clenched, the anger in his eyes flickering with uncertainty. "You think I don't know the risks? I've lived with this all my life. But I refuse to push her away just because of what happened before we were born. She deserves a chance, and so do I."
Namjoon softened slightly at his cousin's words. He knew Jungkook's heart was in the right place, but it only deepened his concern. "I understand, but you have to remember how dangerous this world is. I'm trying to look out for you both."
Before Jungkook could respond, Namjoon's phone buzzed on the desk. It was a message from Kai: "I found something. You need to see this."
Namjoon quickly tapped on the screen and his expression darkened as he read the message. "Jungkook, I need to go meet Kai. Something's come up, and it's about Nari's past."
"Is it serious?" Jungkook asked, a flicker of worry crossing his face.
"More serious than I thought," Namjoon replied, urgency creeping into his voice. "I'll fill you in when I know more. Just... keep Nari close, alright? Don't let her out of your sight."
Jungkook nodded, the playful bravado fading as reality settled in. "You think she'll be safe?"
"I hope so," Namjoon said, gripping Jungkook's shoulder for reassurance. "But I need you to promise me you'll keep your head on straight. Don't let your emotions blind you."
"I won't," Jungkook replied, the fire returning to his eyes. "I'll protect her."
As Namjoon left the office, he felt the weight of the world pressing down on him. The more he learned about Nari's past, the more he realized how precarious their situation had become. He needed to ensure Jungkook's love didn't become their downfall.
