💄VERITY💄

After I left Mav's office, I went down to the kitchen for a snack. As I felt bored but had nothing to do so eating felt like the best choice. I entered and found Rev at the dinette with her laptop and glasses on the tip of her nose. To not disturb her, I slinked my way across the room to the fridge. After searching a bit, I settled on a bottle of water and a bag of baby carrots. As I turned to close the door, Rev was leaning on the island. I jumped, dropping the items, but Rev caught them before they landed. As I pressed a hand to my chest, Rev's giggling echoed in the space.

"I'm. So. Sorry," she barely managed to spit out coherently.

"It's okay, but I'm gonna end up in the hospital if  you Yates keep surprising me."

"Oh yeah? That sounds like an interesting story. Grab the peanut butter, and tell me all about it," she winked before returning to the table.

"Yes, ma'am," I grinned  and stepped over to the cabinet.

"So tell me when did my son naughtily scare you?"

"It was the other night. I couldn't sleep, so I snuck out to the pool and dipped my feet in. I was deep in thought, so when Mavros spoke, I lost balance and fell into the pool."

"Haha, Mavros has the family gift of death walkin'. He's startled me a few times..." Rev stared into the distance with a grin at the memories resurfacing.

"I wish I could do that. I've only ever been able to sneak around after my relatives are piss drunk."

"Ah, so you're the sneaking out type. Should Mav be worried about you leaving without a word, Ver?" Rev tilted her head, and though she gave me a motherly stare, she was grinning.

"No. He found me a job and I promised him I'd stay till I had to leave. I don't break my promises."

"I'm glad. Though we'll hate to see you go, we'll want to have a farewell dinner." Rev placed peanut butter on her plate and grabbed a few carrots.

"Thank you. For taking me in and for all the help. You've become a second family to me."

"No thanks, needed love."

I grinned and dipped my carrot in the peanut butter. As I ate, I watched Ver eat as she typed at the keyboard. I studied her face and marvled at the uncanny twin-like similarities between her and Mavros. Same eye color. Long upturned noses. Pouty bottom lips, you're tempted to strum. Even their face shape and expressions matched. My eyes flickered back to her eyes to find her staring back at me. My eyes bulged, and I hastily lowered my eyes in embarrassment.

"Sorry, it's just that you and Mavros are freakishly similar."

"Family trait on my mama's side," she grinned.

"It reminds me how much my ma and I look alike..."

"I'm here if you wanna talk. I'm sure you're missin' your ma."

"I do, but I don't know when I'll get to speak to her again.."

"You know, this place has too many eyes, ears, and mouths. Why don't I take you to my house and you can tell me all about your worries. What do you say? Are you up for a drive?" Rev stood and spun her keys around her finger.

"I'm in," I grinned and followed her out to the garage.

Before I straddled my bike, I whipped out my phone to text Dav. However, he didn't text back, which I thought was odd. Until I realized he's probably working, as I'm the only one on a "vacation" of sorts. I put on my helmet and climbed aboard my ride. Rev gave me a signal, and I waited for her to lead the way.

THIRTY MINUTES LATER....

I followed Rev across the inclined road and parked beside her in the grass. I mirrored her movements of taking her helmet off and following her forward. She silently led me down away to a trail that led to a gazebo perched cliffside. Rev haulted and spun around with her arms raised in a V.

"Welcome to my secret haven."

"It's glorious, thank you for sharing it with me," I grinned as I looked over the view.

"Come have a seat and bask in magnificent solitude with me." She sat on one of the cushions and patted the one near her.

I took off my boots and sat  down on the cushion beside her. I drew a leg up and draped my arms around it as Rev delved into her messenger bag.

"Here's a poweraid, and a fan."

"Thanks," I took the bottle and twisted the cap.

I sat back and closed my eyes as I tilted my head back. After a few minutes I signed and glanced over at Rev. Who was turned to left looking out at the view with a contented look.

"You can say whatever, it's only you and I out here."

I jerked my head and leaned forward.

"I'm hesitant to leave and unsure about the nanny job with the Whellers. But I know I need to leave."

I paused and waited to see if Rev would say anything.

"I really like Mavros, and I'm disappointed I can't do anything about it."

I glanced over at Rev and saw she was facing ahead with her hands clasped.

"Asking him to come with me is a no brainer, so I won't. But I'm not confident in long distance relationships."

I unscrewed the cap and took a drink to clear my dry throat. As I screwed it back on I saw Rev turn her body towards me.

"Feel better now?" Rev smiled as she tilted her head at me.

"Sort of. I'm glad to have it off my chest, but I don't know what I should do."

"I think you just need to choose between what you want and need. When you have the answers you'll have a clear path," Rev patted my hand and removed it when a phone rang.

She picked her's up and read the info.

"Anything wrong?"

"Mavros just wondering where we are."

"Should we head back?" I asked as I attempted to get up.

"Might as well, I have to figure out dinner and finish some paperwork." Rev rose to her feet and grabbed her bag before heading out.

I slipped on my boots ans followed her down the trail to our bikes. As I followed her down the road I mulled over her advice. The entire trip back went back and forth, but didn't have an answer. As we drove down the Yates' driveway I noticed the patch-holders. There was quite a few of them, some I hadn't seen. At the open garage stood Mavros, the trio, and their moms.

What kind of shit did we step in, Ver???
