Falling Behind

Chapter 6

I always hated Mondays, especially when I have to go to school. Like why can't I get extra hours of sleep. What's even worse, I forgot to pack my lunch for today. So I guess I'm eating the school food today. If you guys are asking, No i wasn't late today.

After the first period was over, I shamefully walked over to my locker knowing I will be needing my textbooks for forensics next period. I absolutely hate the class and the teacher, i personally thought it was going to be fun at first but my teacher Ms. Leonard makes it so boring. So be prepared to be sick of her!

Still searching in my locker, I felt a presence right behind me. Once I turned around I saw Kira and Noah right there. Without a thought, I screamed so loud that the whole hallway looked to where I was at. Noah and Kira look stunned by my actions and honestly me too. Who knew I could scream like that and now I'm embarrassed.

"Damn Malia, I didn't know you were the type to get scared that easily" Noah jokes. I didn't know that either. "You can say that again" I replied, covering my face with embarrassment. On the other hand, Kira looks around at the people who's starring in our direction including Lisa. Who's walking right towards us and I'm scared of what she's going to say.

"Malia you okay? I heard you screamed" she said looking right at my two new friends. "Yeah I'm fine, just surprised. You know how I am when I'm in my own world "I said, confirming the situation. I don't think my response was good enough because Lisa was still looking at them. This is just awkward and I can tell Kira was getting a little bit uncomfortable with it. "Anyways Thank you for your concern. I'm fine and they were just walking me to class since we have it together "I said, making the tension go away. I didn't know what was going to happen if I didn't speak up. Which made Lisa nod her head and walk away to other friends. I just know she's going to ask questions later.

Forensic class was honestly fun today,  Noah really knows how to make someone laugh during class. During the school year, I was always sitting by myself if i didn't have class with Lisa or She would sit with the other girls. The other kids in the class kept looking our way but I didn't care, I had fun. They're just mad that they can't sit with the funniest person i know.

Right now I have a free period then lunch. This is the only thing I love about my senior year schedule. For this free period, I chill in the library all the way in the back. I sometimes read the books here but it has to be a book I will enjoy. If not, I'm putting it right back. Sitting on the carpet, I'm listening to one of my favorite songs in my playlist which is Like I Want You by Giveon. As I nod my head to be beat, I get lost in the music forgetting where I'm at.

"There you are, i was looking for you" Lisa sitting right next to me. I had to pause my music unless I missed the best part of it. Lisa knows all about my safe places in the school. I could never hide from her honestly. "So since when you started hanging out with the outcasts" she continued. Was the nickname for them necessary? "Well one of them saw me sitting alone at Jessies and approached me. I just started getting to know them. They're really sweet and nice, "I confirmed. She shook her head and side-eye me. "There's nothing sweet about them. You don't even know who they are as a group" she said. I waited for her to continue, at this point someone please tell me the situation.

"Look between me and you, that whole friend group is sketchy and the rumors are basically saying that one of their old friends is missing. They were the last to hear from him. The whole school thinks that they have something to do with it." she said. I looked at her for a moment and thought about what I was going to say. I didn't expect that at all.  "Why would y'all think that about them? They lost a friend and you guys are blaming them, "I said to her. She facepalmed herself and was kind of stressed about what I said.  "Lia, they are delinquents. Especially that guy named Theo." she said walking away.

Which left me to process everything that was said.

Finally at lunch I wanted to take a break from everything. This whole thing about judging others in this school is really stressing me out. Imagine losing a friend and you get blamed for it. I really hate what's happening to them and being called an outcast is crazy. This friend group deserves so much better and I want to fix it.

As I make my way to my table, I see them sitting there as well. This is going to be all new to me. They all smiled and said hey to me except for Theo who just waved. It's okay. I know making a new friend is new to him because this is new to me as well. Other than Lisa, I'm glad this is happening. Maybe the universe is trying to tell me something.

"No food today Malia?"Alex questioned. I shook my head no and soon enough the group gave me pieces of their food. I smiled happily and said thank you to them. "I'm guessing Malia here is a foodie like me here" Leon spoke. He's not wrong, man I love me some food. We all started talking about our interests and I have some things in common with all of them. Leon loves food, Kira loves to play Guitar, Alex loves cardigans, Noah loves reading and Theo loves to listen to music. All the things that I love , they love. I'm quite amazed by it.

Our time together was going well until Janice came over interrupting the moment. "Well isn't it Malia with her delinquent friends" she said scanning all of us. I wish she could just disappear. "Why don't you leave" Kira spoke up, making Janice laugh at her boldness. "You guys don't belong here" Janice replied back. Her response made Kira get up and stared her down which made me get up as well just in case i have to hold someone back. "Come on we're trying to have a proper lunch, why are you trying to start" Noah pointed out. I nodded my head agreeing with him. The attention was all on us. I wanted to shut everything down and tell Janice to mind her business but I couldn't. Theo got up and told us to pack our stuff so we can leave. "Yeah Theo leave like how Brian left y'all" Jackson shouted from his table. Where the hell he came from and who's Brian? Everything happened so fast that Jackson ended up on the ground from his seat.

The action made the two groups start a brawl.
