My heart raced as I darted after Jackson, who was already a few steps ahead. His long strides covered the pavement surprisingly quickly for his height while I struggled to match his pace. Poh Poh's house peeked through the other houses at the end of the street.

We reached her house at last, excitement bubbling up inside me as we stepped in the driveway.

Jackson knocked on the door and PN, who curled around my shoulders, stirred awake at the knocking, moving from her position on my left shoulder, to my head.

"You're here!" Poh Poh exclaimed happily as she ushered us in.

Our Ma ma's side of the family was there as well as his Ba ba's and the family of my Appa's that they liked.

Ma ma is the Cantonese equivalent of Eomma, Mom or Mum.

Ba ba is the Cantonese equivalent of Appa or Dad.

Me and Jackson had different Appas, while his Ba ba was Chinese, my Appa was Korean.

Sportsmen were in the family, Our Ma ma had been an Olympic gymnast, his Ba ba -who allowed me to call him Ba ba and preferred it when I called him Ba ba- was a retired professional fencer and my Appa was a retired rugby player and had played on the South Korean rugby team during the 1980's.

My Ma ma's family never liked Appa, they liked some of his family but never him, they found him too rebellious, ill-mannered and too much of a bad boy.

When Ma ma's family found out what Appa had been doing, they were sympathetic and never gloated or pointed out they were right, it was an open book in our family but it was never mentioned, and when it was, it was explained to my consent with my consent.

"My darling!" Poh Poh exclaimed lovingly as she eagerly threw her arms around me. "Next time don't wait 11 fucking years." Poh Poh scolded making me chuckle softly.

Countless hugs were shared as words of comfort and happiness were exchange as each relative took their turn to hug me for the first time in ages, or even the first time.

"2 idols in our family!" Ba ba said. "I'm so proud of you two, I hope you know that YN, you'll always have a place here, with anyone in this room, we're so proud of you and so proud of how much you've persevered and pushed through everything hard."

"Yeah, we love you YN, know that you can always come here to us, no matter what." Ma Ma said.

Okay guys, so, in Cantonese Romanization (how Cantonese words are written out in English letters) Ma ma(mum/mom) is written the same as Ma ma(Paternal grandmother-father's mother) so, Ma ma will mean mum/mom and Ma Ma will mean grandma/nanny.

There are a few different ways to write both those words in Cantonese Romanization such as 'ma ma', 'Ma Ma' and 'Ma ma'.

For clarification:

Ma Ma: Dad's mum(grandma/nanny)

Poh Poh: Mum's mum(grandma/nanny)

Yeh Yeh: Dad's dad

Ngoi Gung: Mum's dad

Ma ma: Mum/Mom

Ba ba: Dad

Jackson and YN are half siblings and share the same mother so their mother is Ma ma.

YN's Dad is Appa.

And Jackson's Dad is Ba ba but YN calls Jackson's dad Ba ba too.

However in this story (not in real life) their Ma ma is dead so she won't be included in any conversations but is included in the plot and is important to YN as a character so there will be frequent enough mentions of her.
