winter spirit week day 1
"hi, hello, good morning, guys, and welcome to our winter spirit week day one!" i exclaimed to the camera, trying to maintain some semblance of energy despite the haze of exhaustion that lingered over me. "yeah, i know, why do we have so many spirit weeks? i have no clue, but i love them. and i actually just got to school, right on time for lunch, but it's because this wednesday's the premiere of family switch!" i screamed, mentally thanking the universe that there was no one on the hallways to witness my unfiltered excitement. "i'm so excited, guys, and today i had my last outfit check and i love my dress. but, going back to winter spirit week, today's theme is flannel and frost day and i'm looking for my sisters and our friends so we can show you guys our adorable outfits."
november had flown by, literally. between thanksgiving and our winter break coming up, plus, both family switch and percy jackson and the olympians premieres, it's been hectic. and anxious. i've had three more anxiety attacks in less than a month, something that hadn't happened since last year. i'm seriously thinking about asking my parents if i can go back to therapy. i don't know why i stopped in the first place.
i stuffed my camera in my purse, taking a quick glance around the courtyard for any sign of my friends. the usual crew were already gathered, chatting amongst themselves and showing off their own interpretations of the flannel and frost theme. nicole had paired her flannel shirt with a cozy knit scarf, looking effortlessly chic, while kenzie's take on the theme was more 'frost' than 'flannel', her outfit consisting of white faux fur boots and a pale blue beanie that made her look like she belonged in a winter wonderland.
as i approached, i couldn't help but feel a twinge of pride for all of us; we really did looks adorable today. and despite the nerves and pressure of everything going on in my life lately, moments like these helped ground me. i joined them, laughing as camila twirled around, showing off her fluffy cardigan, and gabriel dramatically announcing that he was 'the spirit of winter himself'.
"ok, ok, can we just agree we're all winning at this theme?" ashlee said, giving me a playful shove. "seriously, who thought flannel could look this good?"
i smiled, a bit of tension in my chest easing as i sank into the rhythm of their banter. "honestly, i'm just happy i got my outfit right this year."
ana snorted. "this year? sweetheart, you slay every time."
