The warm glow of the laptop screen illuminated the dimly lit room as Minho and I lounged on the couch, both leaning slightly forward with anticipation. The beats from the speakers filled the air, each audition submission revealing a new talent and story. I loved these moments with my hyung, where we could joke and share our thoughts while watching the submissions for the upcoming reality show.
"Okay, here comes the next one!" Minho said, clicking play with a smirk. I couldn't help but grin at his enthusiasm, but my mind was a bit preoccupied today. I kept thinking about the girl I'd been texting—Eva. We had met through social media, and our conversations had blossomed into something fun and lighthearted. I enjoyed our chats, filled with playful banter, but I had yet to meet her in person.
The next video loaded, and I straightened up in my seat, my heart racing as I saw the name flash across the screen: "Eva Kang." The girl on the screen looked about 19, with dark hair pulled back into a neat ponytail. The background was unmistakably a school locker room, filled with brightly colored lockers that stood in sharp contrast to her simple outfit. She moved with grace and fluidity, dancing with a joy that was infectious.
"Wow, look at her!" Minho exclaimed, clearly impressed. "She's got some serious skills. I can see her making it far in this competition."
"Yeah, definitely," I replied, my gaze glued to the screen. I was captivated, but I couldn't shake the nagging thought that this could be the same Eva I had been texting. It seemed impossible, so I rationalized it away. There were probably a million girls named Eva in the world. Why would I think they were the same person?
"Isn't it crazy how many talented people are out there?" Minho continued, still focused on the video. "I mean, this girl could be a star."
"Yeah, she really has a way of drawing you in," I said, forcing myself to focus on the performance rather than the connection I felt tugging at my thoughts. As the video progressed, I felt an odd sense of pride swell in my chest, almost as if I were watching a friend succeed. The girl's smile radiated confidence, and her choreography was executed flawlessly. When she finished with a flourish and beamed at the camera, I couldn't help but smile back.
"Did you catch that?" Minho asked, pausing the video as the girl took a bow. "Her timing was perfect! She deserves to move on to the next round for sure."
"Yeah, she really does," I replied, my thoughts still racing. "I wonder if she's going to get called for the next stage."
Minho leaned back against the couch, a casual grin on his face. "You never know. It all depends on what the judges are looking for. But I think she's definitely got something special."
I leaned back too, crossing my arms as I glanced at Minho. "You know, she might be going to my school. It would be cool to see her dance in person. I wonder if she knows how good she really is."
"Why don't you find out? You're pretty good at making friends, especially with girls," Minho teased, nudging me playfully.
I laughed, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. "Maybe, but I don't want to come off as creepy. Just because I saw her audition doesn't mean I can just walk up and say, 'Hey, I watched you dance in a locker room!'"
"Why not?" Minho replied, grinning wider. "You should totally go for it. Besides, if she's as cool as she seems, she'll appreciate the support."
I shrugged, torn between the idea and my apprehension. I didn't want to assume anything, especially not about someone who might be completely different from the girl I had been chatting with.
As we continued watching more auditions, I couldn't shake the thought of Eva Kang from my mind. The more I thought about her, the more I wanted to connect the dots. Maybe one day, I would find the courage to approach her, to discover if there was a connection beyond just a name.
But for now, I leaned into the moment, letting the music and Minho's commentary wash over me, blissfully unaware of the coincidences that would soon unfold, intertwining our lives in ways I could never have predicted.
