He's your superhero

(You and Luke always had this thing where if you were sad or in trouble, he would make you feel better and you would call him your superhero.)

I sat on the couch of my apartment, and watched looney tunes. I ate mint ice cream out of the carton and wiped my cheeks every time a tear fell from my eyes. Michael had broken up with me this morning, and I wasn't in the mood to do anything. I heard my phone buzz, so I turned it on.

It was a text from my best friend Luke, and it said:

'I'm almost there :-)'

I quickly got up, and dried my eyes. I placed concealer under them and did everything I could to make it look like I wasn't crying.

I honestly wasn't in the mood to have Luke over. He's sweet but he's always so jumpy and happy and always seemed like he was on a sugar high. He's never cried in front of me, but instead he just laughs about everything.

I heard a knock on the door, and Luke walked right in. He always does it.

"Hi Carter!" He smiled, and sat on my couch. I lightly smiled, and sat back in my spot. "Okay. So I was thinking of inviting everybody over to my house. Michael will be there. Don't worry! You two are so cute together. Anyway, it'll be me, you, Calum, Ashton, and Michael. Oh, and we're gonna play truth or dare, and yes I'll dare Michael to kiss you like you always make me do-"

He kept rambling on, and with everything he said about me and Michael, I got angrier. He was talking so fast, and digging his spoon into the ice cream container, and usually I would think he's just being his adorable self, but now it was just annoying.

"-and then we can all play guitar hero and you and Michael can do that thing where he stands-"

"Luke. Stop." I said, and rubbed my temples. He looked up, and took another bite of ice cream. "What's wrong?" He asked, and looked at me. "Nothing. I'm just not in the mood for you." I said bitterly, and realized I shouldn't have.

"In the mood for me? You have to be in a mood to hang out with me? That's weird, anyway I was hoping that just me you and Michael could all go-"

"Luke shut up!" I yelled, and he snapped his head over.

"Sorry." He whispered, and dropped his spoon in the carton.
"What did you even come over here for?" I asked, and he shrugged. "I just thought maybe you'd wanna hang out." He said, and I shook my head. "I really don't!" I spat, and he looked down. "Did I say something?" He asked, and I scoffed.

"Yes! You said everything! You've talked about every single topic under the sun in the last five minutes. It's annoying and I'm really not in the mood!" I snapped, and he looked up at me. "Tell me what's wrong. Mr. Superhero is here to save the day." He said, and laid down.

"No Luke. You're the problem, okay? You're being annoying. I'm tired of it. Would you just leave?!" I asked, and he frowned a little. "What kind of superhero would I be if I left when you needed help?" He asked, and laughed a little.

"An amazing one because you would be taking the root of all of my problems far far away from me." I said, and he crossed his arms over his stomach and kept his gaze on me.

"I- but we're best friends- well at least you're my best friend. I don't understand. Why do I have to leave?" He asked, and sounded extremely hurt by my words.

"You're not my best friend Luke. You're annoying and I don't know why I stuck around you this whole time." I said, and he looked down. "Then why did you become my friend in the first place?" He asked, and picked up his jacket, getting ready to leave.

"Because I felt bad for you. You always sat under that tree at the park all day long and you never had any friends. You're pitiful." I said, and I didn't know why I was saying these things but they kept coming.

"I thought I was your superhero I-I-"

"You couldn't be anyone's superhero no matter how hard you tried." I said, and he ran out of my apartment.

I'm an idiot.
