Luke's pov.
"Are you ready?" Michael asked as I looked over at Alex's locker. I shook my head quickly. "No. I'm scared. What if she says no?" I asked, and he rolled his eyes.
"Luke. You're a babe magnet. A bunch of girls think you're hot. Why would she think differently?" He said, and I shrugged. "Because she actually sees how ugly I am and isn't blind like all of the other girls." I said softly, and looked up at Michael. He placed his hand on my shoulder, and sighed. "Luke. Don't say that. Now go ask her." He said, and I nodded, walking over to her locker.
"H-Hey alex." I said, and she turned around, and smiled. "Hi Luke. What's up?" She asked, so I shrugged. "I- I was just wondering if you maybe wanted to go see a movie this weekend, you know, if you're not busy?" I said, and hoped she said yes because I already bought her ticket.
She looked up at me, but didn't smile.
Crap. She's probably gonna say no.
I mean, why would she say yes? I'm awkward and ugly.
"Look Luke, you're a cool guy, but I just- I don't-"
"Hey. You don't have to explain. I get it." I said softly, and she frowned. I scratched the back of my neck, and looked down. "I'll see you around." I said, and softly smiled at her.
I walked back to Michael, and his expression softened.
I've liked alex since freshman year, and now, as a senior, I've finally worked up the courage to ask her out, but it didn't work.
I didn't think it would.
"Hey Luke- you know what? If you really want me to go I will, it's just that..." She started, but she couldn't find the words to explain.
"I want you to go, but I don't want you to have a miserable time with me. I know you don't want to hang out, and that's fine." I said, and she looked at me sympathetically before walking away.
"Michael. Please drive me home." I whispered, and he threw an arm over my shoulder, leading me out of the school.
