Seokmin

Heat pulsed through me, and topaz-coloured light shot out from our joined hands, wrapping around us both in an intricate web. Something thrummed in my chest, a combination of joy, relief, and hope completely unrelated to what I was feeling.

Joshua. I was feeling Joshua.

Before I could wonder about it, Joshua was moving. He climbed me like a spider monkey, his wings opening to hold him in position without me needing to do anything. His arms wound around my neck, his legs locking behind my back. His hands went to my neck as he squeezed lightly, a possessive fire in his eyes.

"Mine," he growled.

"Yours," I breathed.

Then his mouth was on mine, and I knew this was it for us. I'd pushed him away and broken both our hearts. I'd been taken away, breaking them a second time.

Now nothing would tear us apart again. Never again would I look at him and wonder when my heart would next be broken.

I don't know how long we were lost in each other before a loud smashing noise had us pulling apart.

And I realised that while we'd been kissing, chaos had erupted.

Shua's brothers and Ferry stood in a line, facing the balcony, arms raised. The air before them shimmered with a kaleidoscope of colours...a shield.

One that was being battered mercilessly by countless demons.

These ones didn't look like the frightened creatures who had fled from the brothers earlier. No, these demons looked like they were out for blood.

"Shit," Shua swore, scrambling down from my arms. He pushed me behind him, his wings snapping out and cutting off my view. "Stay against the wall, Seokmin."

I opened my mouth to argue, to insist that he needed me by his side. That was the moment Shua released his power with a quick movement of his hands. Four demons beyond the shield disappeared into dust.

I closed my mouth. Nah, he was good.

Pride rose in my chest as I watched Joshua fire blast after blast. Why the fuck had I ever worried about him? I should've realised his take-no-shit attitude spread to all facets of his life. Maniacal laughter fell from his lips as he moved closer to the barrier, unsheathing daggers and throwing them with deadly accuracy. Here, he was in his element. Free. Fierce. Unleashed.

I'd never loved him more.

Even with the five of them fighting, we were massively overwhelmed. Every demon Joshua managed to strike down was immediately replaced by two more. We needed to get out of here fast. I looked at the doorway we'd entered through, remembering what Ferry had said about no one being able to enter that way. Though judging by the noise from the street below, it probably wasn't a suitable route.

"I'm getting low," Seungcheol shouted, sweat running down his face. The barrier was starting to splinter, the snarling demons seeing the weakness and advancing.

"Shit, me too," Soonyoung panted. He dropped his hands, choosing instead to grab the swords over his shoulders.

There was a tug of exhaustion in my chest, completely unrelated to how I felt. I shot my gaze to Joshua, and my heart faltered as I realised how much he had slowed down.

"Joshua, take Seokmin and go," Vernon shouted over his shoulder.

"No," I shouted at the same time as Shua. We exchanged a look, and a fierce bolt of pride shot through the bond. There was no way we were leaving there without the others.

"All of you go," Ferry said. He steeled himself, and the shield's orange elements expanded until all the other colours were obliterated. "The longer you stay, the more will come. I'll hold them off until you're across the river."
