"They're cool, stop stressing." I tell him as we get out of the car and I can feel him worried.

We didn't see my uncle and his wife yet, their plane got delayed so Olive just gave us her keys to the beach house so we could get settled in.

Grandma invited us all out for the evening, 'Family reunion' she said. But somehow, when my mom heard I was here, she suddenly got the flue.

I was sad for a minute at first. Then I realized I was not. And I became infuriated. So I broke a photo frame. The one with my mom and her sister on it, hanged in the hallway.

Then Charles saw me and panicked, thinking I was hurt or worse. So he hugged me and suddenly everything was better.

I take his hand in mine and give him a reassuring squeeze. He's sweating as fuck. I stop and turn in front of him.

"Babe," I look him in the eyes. "you're handsome, you're funny, and you're the reason I'm even here in the first place. They're going to love you, if they don't already. You have nothing to worry about."

He nods his head, his eyes softening when I feel my words affect his attitude. I leave a soft kiss on his lips before leading us inside.

"Maisie, ahla w sahla! (Welcome!)" The owner of the restaurant, an old friend of the family greets me as he recognizes me.

I smile. "Hi Joe." I shake his hand.

"Ya7ene bel ekhir, metlel 3ade. (They're in the corner, as usual.)" He informs and I nod, thanking him before heading to our usual table.

We always used to come up here every Sunday with the entire family. Same food, same people, same vibe... It was our thing.

As usual, I find everyone there. Olive, Nour and her boyfriend, their younger sister Aya, their parents, with their newborn baby, Paul, my uncle, his wife, my grandma and her sister. My grandpa passed away a couple years ago.

I stand for a second, seeing them all. It really hits me now how much I've missed them. "Are you ready?" Charles squeezes my hand now.

I nod my head, "Yeah, yeah. Let's go." We walk to the table.

Once we stand in front of everyone, at the head of the table, they all go quiet for a second. The first to speak up is Aya. "Maisie!" She yells her heart out, jumping out of her chair to come and greet me.

I catch the eleven year old and lift her up as I hug her hello. "I've missed you." I cuddle her hair, kissing her cheek.

"Me too!" She smiles widely.

Everyone else slowly stands up just as I put her down. It takes a couple of seconds for us all to process the fact I'm actually here. It's been like two years.

"Hi." I softly smile, breaking the tension.

They all break and either whistle or cheer before they all comme around and take me into this huge hug, where everyone is just on top of each other. I missed them.

My uncle whistles then, "Can we all just give a round of applause to our Mercedes rookie?" He cheers on and everyone joins him. He even turns around and gets the rest of the restaurant to drop everything they're doing and clap for me.
