❝ i love you, i'm sorry. ❞

Mais texted me, telling me she's the one coming to my room tonight. Also, I think my lucky charm went from stealing ice cream to sleeping with her.

That qualifying was amazing. My first qualifying with Ferrari at Monza and I got pole. I'm just hoping tomorrow will be just as good, if not better.

Monza is every Ferrari driver's biggest dream win. If I can get that win tomorrow, nothing will be able to bring me down.

I sit on my bed, waiting for her. She doesn't have my key card as we had planned to only stay in her room. I don't even know why she wants to change tonight.

A few minutes pass after her text, and she knocks on my door. I jump up and rush to open. "Say hello to your pole position boyfriend." I grin like an idiot, not even giving her a second to say hello.

When I look back at her though, something feels off. What's wrong? My grin disappears and I frown, leaning closer to her. "Maisie?"

She snaps out of her bubble and looks up at me. "Hi." She forces a smile. There's a redness in her eyes that doesn't reassure me at all.

I pull her in, closing the door behind. "Are you okay?" I ask, holding her hand, pressing a soft kiss on it, trying to make her feel better.

"No." She doesn't even lie as her voice shakes.

I'm sure it isn't about qualifying results, she's not one to cry over quali but I still try to humor her. "I know you wanted pole just as much but please don't cry." I try to cheer her with my lame sarcasm she usually loves.

"It's not that." She shakes her head, not even slightly amused by my lameness.

"What is it?" I stop and take it seriously, starting to really worry for her.

"Uhm..." She takes a deep breath, letting go of my hand and starts pacing around. I don't pressure her and wait until she's comfortable enough to speak. She's wiggling her hands trying to calm herself down, and stopping herself from crying. She then stops out of the blue and looks me in the eyes. "Our trial period has come to an end."

I don't understand. "What do you mean?"

She gulps, "Toto knows. Everyone is starting to." She informs.

"Shit." I mutter, realizing we're in big trouble. I thought we'd have more time, maybe enough to even tell them ourselves, find and build a solution together. I guess I was too optimistic. "What do we do?" I ask to see if she has any ideas.

Her hands start shaking uncontrollably, her leg doing so too. She breathes heavily. She then brings her hands to her stomach and wraps them around herself.

When she looks back at me this time, there's nothing in her eyes. Not that tiny shimmer in them like usual, not the adoration.

She swallows, her lips quivering. "We break up."

There's no way I just heard that right. I refuse to believe the words coming out of her mouth.

"What!?" I try to stay calm, hearing these words. But how can I? There's no way.

She goes defensive immediately, "I don't want to do this. Believe me. I want nothing more than you. But we have no choice." She explains "They're making us do this."

"Who!? I'll kill every single one of them!" I yell, taking a step closer to her, demanding to know. I'm not accepting this.

"That's not the point." She waves it off. How is it not the point!? If we're being forced to break up, I would want to know by who! "You and I knew this wouldn't work ever since we've laid eyes on each other." She adds making a solid point. I couldn't care less though.
