The line went dead.

Alexander's gaze lingered on Emily's face, his resolve strengthening.

He would protect her at all costs.

Marcus adjusted his night vision goggles, scanning the abandoned warehouse's perimeter. His trained eyes swept across the rooftops, alleys, and entrance points.

"Alexander, this is Marcus. I've got eyes on the warehouse," Marcus whispered into the comms device.

Alexander's voice crackled through the line. "Roger that, Marcus. What's the situation?"

"Ten men, heavily armed. Two guards at the main entrance, two more patrolling the roof. Conti's likely inside," Marcus reported.

Alexander's voice remained calm. "Get me Conti's exact location."

Marcus shifted his gaze, focusing on the warehouse's windows. "Second floor, northwest corner. I see Conti's profile. He's talking to someone, likely the buyer."

"Can you ID the buyer?" Alexander asked.

"Negative. They're keeping a low profile. But I count at least five more men inside," Marcus replied.

Alexander's pause was brief. "Alright, Marcus. Keep watching. I'll move in soon."

Marcus nodded, his eyes never leaving the warehouse. "Be careful, Alex. Conti won't hesitate to kill."

"Me too," Alexander said, his voice firm.

Marcus continued surveillance, tracking every move, every shadow.

Time:22:47

Location: Abandoned warehouse, east side

Weather:Overcast, light drizzle

Alexander checked his watch: 22:50. Time to move.

"Marcus, I'm heading in. Keep watch," Alexander said, his voice low.

"Roger that, Alex. Be careful," Marcus replied.

Alexander slipped out of the shadows, adjusting his disguise. He wore a tailored suit, slicked-back hair, and a confident smile – the perfect buyer persona.

He approached the warehouse entrance, where two guards eyed him warily.

"Can we help you?" one guard growled.

Alexander flashed a fake ID. "I'm here for the... merchandise viewing. Conti's expecting me."

The guards exchanged skeptical glances before nodding. "Upstairs, second floor. You'll be escorted."

Alexander nodded, falling into step behind the guard.

As they climbed the stairs, Alexander's mind raced. Conti's men were on high alert, but he'd prepared for this.

The guard opened the door to the second-floor room, and Alexander stepped inside.

Conti, seated behind a desk, smiled warmly. "Welcome, Mr. Jenkins. Right on time."

Alexander's gaze swept the room, noting the buyer's presence – a hooded figure in the corner.

"Let's discuss the merchandise," Alexander said, his voice smooth.

Conti leaned forward, a briefcase opening on his desk. "I think you'll find the goods... satisfactory."

Alexander's eyes locked onto the briefcase, his mind racing with possibilities.

Time: 22:53

Location: Warehouse, second floor

Objective: Gather intel, apprehend Conti

Alexander smiled, taking a seat across from Conti. "I've heard great things about your... merchandise."

Conti leaned back, steepling his fingers. "You'll find it exceeds expectations, Mr. Jenkins."

As they spoke, Alexander subtly nodded toward the corner, signaling Marcus via comms.

Marcus's voice whispered in Alexander's earpiece. "Backup en route. 30 seconds."

Alexander kept Conti engaged. "I'm interested in the encryption codes. Can you demonstrate?"

Conti's smile widened. "Of course."

Just as Conti reached for the briefcase, Marcus and the backup team burst in.

"Take Conti down!" Alexander shouted.

Conti's men drew guns, but Marcus's team swiftly neutralized them.

Alexander pinned Conti to the desk. "It's over."

Conti whispered "Alexander....."

Marcus and two team members dragged Conti, struggling, from the room.

"Basement, now!" Alexander ordered.

Conti's cries echoed down the stairs as they descended.

In the basement

Alexander interrogated Conti.

"Where are the encryption codes?" Alexander demanded.

The dimly lit basement seemed to suffocate Conti, his breaths growing shallow as Alexander's grip tightened around his wrist. The air reeked of desperation, Conti's sweat-drenched face reflecting the terror that gripped his mind.

"You're running out of time, Conti," Alexander hissed, his voice low and menacing. "The encryption codes. Who's the buyer?"

Conti's eyes darted wildly, searching for an escape that didn't exist. His lips trembled, but no words emerged. Alexander's fingers dug deeper into Conti's skin.

Marcus stepped forward, his presence imposing. "We know you're selling classified information. The flash drive's hidden somewhere. Tell us, or your family suffers."

Conti's face contorted, a mixture of fear and defiance. "You'll... never... find it," he stammered, each word a struggle.

Alexander's expression turned glacial. "We'll see about that."

The device Marcus produced seemed to shrink Conti's resolve. Electric shocks coursed through his body, his screams echoing off the cold walls. Still, he resisted.

Alexander's eyes narrowed. "You're testing my patience, Conti."

The photos Alexander showed him – his family, vulnerable and exposed – cracked Conti's facade. Tears streamed down his face, but his lips remained sealed.

Marcus intervened, his voice a gentle whisper. "Conti, don't make this harder. Tell us, and we'll protect them."

Conti's chest heaved, his body trembling. Alexander leaned in, his breath hot against Conti's ear.

"Where's the flash drive?" Alexander demanded.

Conti's voice was barely audible. "Bookshelf... hidden compartment... first floor."

Marcus dispatched a team member to retrieve the drive. Conti's eyes followed them, a desperate plea.

Alexander's grip tightened. "You're going down for treason, Conti."

As the team member returned with the flash drive, Conti's world crumbled. Alexander verified the encryption codes, his expression unyielding.

"Mission accomplished," Marcus said, his voice a stark contrast to the darkness surrounding them.

Conti's eyes filled with despair as Alexander and Marcus led him away, the shadows swallowing him whole.
