What we are researching: How highly sensitive are you? Self-testing.
1. Today, the dominant model for determining an individual's type in personality psychology is the so-called Big Five. Here, a human's personality [individuality, author's ed.] is described based on five factors: neuroticism *, extraversion **, openness to experience, agreeableness, and conscientiousness (Sand, Ilse. 2018) [1].
* Neuroticism: Neuroticism measures a person's emotional stability and resistance to stress. High levels of neuroticism are associated with increased emotional reactivity, anxiety, and mood swings [2].
** Extraversion: Extraversion measures a human's level of sociability, assertiveness, and enthusiasm. Highly extroverted people thrive in social situations, like to be the center of attention, and prefer external stimulation (ibid.).
2. The Big Five does not take into account unique characteristics such as a rich inner life and a tendency to reflect*, which are characteristic of both introverts** and highly sensitive people (ibid.).
* Reflection is the process of self-knowledge through awareness of one's inner world. It requires a certain level of maturity to become aware of one's mental processes and states. Children, as a rule, do not have this ability, and even adults may not develop it unless they actively strive to reflect on themselves and pay special attention to their inner processes (V fr. 10. 7–10; 11. 7; 12. 5; 21. 9) [3].
** Introversion: introverted people tend to be more reserved, reflective, and energetic during solitary activities [2].
3. Limited understanding of the individual. Ilse Sand gained extensive experience in providing psychological support as a pastor. Later, she worked for many years as a certified psychotherapist, treating various psychological disorders. Based on this experience, she came to the conclusion that modern psychological knowledge about personality types is mainly based on the five-factor model (I fr. 36. 5). However, this model does not take into account the unique characteristics of highly sensitive people (hereinafter HSPs).
• "Given this situation, it is not at all surprising that many introverts and highly sensitive people [individuals, author's ed.] suffer from low self-esteem. However, thanks to Elaine Aron, we finally have an alternative model" (italics original) (Sand, Ilse. 2018) [1].
4. Alternative model. This model for determining the type of individual was first created by Elaine Aron, which takes into account the unique characteristics of the HSP [4]. 4. Alternative model. This model for determining the type of individual was first created by Elaine Aron, who takes into account the unique characteristics of the HSP [4]. However, Ilse Sand believes that the test should also take into account, in addition to heredity, the social environment and upbringing typical of Denmark, and not the United States. As a result, using Elaine Aron's test in her research in treating her clients, Ilse Sand developed her test.
5. Instructions from the author of the test Ilse Sand. Below is a test that I developed for my Danish patients. When answering a question, you must choose one of five answers. Next to each question, indicate the number of points received for answering it.
6. Answer options and the corresponding number of points.
1. Does not correspond - 0 points.
2. Partially corresponds - 1 point.
3. Corresponds to a large extent - 2 points.
4. Corresponds almost completely - 3 points.
5. Completely corresponds - 4 points.
7. Test "How highly sensitive are you?" Self-test.
