What we are exploring: How does temperament influence my personality and emotional behavior?

What's new: How does the "temperament uniqueness" concept help us better understand our uniqueness, as opposed to the traditional division into temperament types?

What we will learn: How does accepting and protecting our unique temperament contribute to the development of self-love?

1. Individual human characteristics manifest in natural and acquired properties during ontogenesis [development, author's ed.]. The combination of innate properties forms the structure usually called temperament, and the combination of acquired social properties is attributed to the personality [individual, author's ed.]. (Ilyin E.P. 2004) [1].

2. Temperament is not only a physiological phenomenon but also a psychological one. Temperament cannot be reduced to physiological processes, to the peculiarities of the dynamics of motor skills, motor reactions; Temperament expresses a human's emotional excitability, his sensitivity [sensitivity threshold, author's ed.], the characteristics of intensity, depth of emotions, the impulsiveness of the personality [of the individual, author's ed.] in general (ibid.).

3. Temperament and individuality. Individual psychology expert Ilyin points to the integrity of the temperament structure, which is the result of heredity and acquired social properties. He also shows the integrity of the temperament structure, consisting of physiological and psychological processes. At the same time, he shows the connection between a human's individual characteristics and his temperament, which manifests themselves in his level of sensitivity (for example, high sensitivity), intensity (speed of emotional processes), and impulsivity (strength of emotional impulses). Science has not remained static either and has tried to understand the concept of temperament to create a holistic approach.

4. Attempts at a holistic approach. Various theories regarding the concept of temperament have tried to create an image that would reflect the essence and meaning of this concept for over 24 centuries. However, all of them had a significant drawback in disclosing the concept of temperament. Some authors of temperament theories reduced it only to physiological processes or the relationship with the constitution of the body, while others reduced it to the psychological processes of a human (see Epigraph 2). Some tried to combine physiological and psychological processes into one whole, but at the same time, adhering to only four types of temperament and their essence. There were also attempts to expand the number of temperament types by introducing mixed and intermediate types. In addition, there is confusion between the concepts of temperament and personality. In the Western school of psychology, there is a blurring between temperament types and personality types, so it is sometimes difficult to understand what is being discussed - temperament types or individual types [1]. Therefore, psychology had to overcome these difficulties to understand what temperament is.

5. Overcoming difficulties. As it turned out later, a person is a combination of temperament and individuality. Therefore, it was very difficult to single out the leading role of temperament [1, 2, 3, 4]. Such approaches, on the one hand, sharply limited the scope of the concept of temperament, and on the other, blurred this concept. This prevented the development and study of temperament in all its integrity and diversity depending on the individuality of a person. Nevertheless, Professor Ilyin makes a conclusion about the concept of temperament, with which, according to him, almost all of his researchers agree.
