What we are exploring: What is my character and what does it include?
What is new: Which of the improved character fragments would you like to develop and why?
What we will learn: How can we continue to shape our character based on self-love?
1. The type of higher nervous activity ("genotype", temperament) should be distinguished from the "character", "phenotype", or (the warehouse of higher nervous activity)* [of the psyche, ed., author], which is a fusion of the traits of the type and those traits that are acquired during the individual existence of a human (Teplov B.M. 1985) [1].
2. Distinguish temperament from character. For our study, we will turn to the formulation of the doctor of psychology Teplov, who defined character as "an alloy of type traits and those traits that are acquired during the individual existence of a human." Thus, according to Teplov, character consists of two parts, innate - "type traits" and acquired "those traits" that became part of his psyche during those events in which he realized his individuality, separated from the social mask. But, as soon as in the previous chapter we found out that even modern science of the psyche does not see the difference between the concepts of an individual's character and his mask (personality) (V fr. 34. 4).
• Character - this concept is interpreted far from unambiguously. There are difficulties in distinguishing between character and temperament (→temperament│character); even more controversy arises when trying to separate the concepts of character and personality (italics author) (Golovin S. Yu. 1998) [2].
It is worth noting that the Russian (the successor to the Soviet) school of psychology also does not see this difference (ibid.). Therefore, postulating the term character, it uses it in the sense of a mask. Consequently, it is even less worth expecting an awareness of one's individuality from a person who is not versed in psychology. As a result, we are left with only one part ("type traits") related to character - "a combination of innate properties" or temperament (V fr. 28. 1). As for the second component of character, without understanding the differences between the concepts of individual and mask, a person's individuality could not develop and therefore remained in its infancy (V fr. 7. 6, 7).
3. The in its infancy state of individuality. The individuality of a human, as a basis for the development of acquired character traits, was suppressed and then ousted from consciousness. This is not surprising, because at first the concept of "character" was ousted from the psychology of the Western school (except in Germany and France). Therefore, we do not find such a concept as the character in it.
• "In the second half of the 20th century, the concept of character practically fell out of use in American academic psychology, surviving only in clinically oriented approaches" (author's italics) (Stepanov S. 2005) [3].
Previously, psychologists often spoke of a human's "character" as a certain unchanging essence. But then they realized that this was too complex and ambiguous a concept, as written in the previous paragraph. Therefore, they began to study individual fragments of the human psyche, such as personality. However, in some areas of psychology, for example, in the treatment of psychical disorders, the concept of character is still used. So, we are still left with an open question: what is the concept of character?
4. The concept of character. The word character is borrowed from the ancient Greek word χαρακτήρ (charaktér). The meaning of the word character is defined as a tool used to engrave on solid objects, resulting in an image, artistic pattern, imprint or stamp on coins and seals, inscription, etc. [4, 5]. Therefore, the meaning of the concept of a human's character lies in the individual imprint that he leaves after his impact. It is like a human's fingerprint: a unique combination of features that makes us who we are. Thus, after studying the concepts of personality and character, the essential difference between them becomes clear. A human can share his identity *, playing different roles in his life by the masks of Western society, but as an integral and indivisible private property, he will always leave one imprint - an individual character.
