The Frenzy Gu had severely affected the little fox.

Yan Jue noticed her memory was steadily fading, and her spiritual energy was draining at an alarming rate. She often forgot recent events, and sometimes, in rare moments of lucidity, she'd absentmindedly lift her paw to scratch herself—almost believing she truly was just a little fox.

Thankfully, Qi Xianqing spoke with her every day, tirelessly repeating recent events, which helped Yan Jue's condition gradually improve.

In truth, Yan Jue's transformation into her fox form was a self-defense mechanism. Sensing her dwindling spiritual energy, reverting to her original form allowed her to conserve as much strength as possible.

Over time, with Qi Xianqing's careful care, Yan Jue regained the ability to take human form. Sometimes, while resting on her bed, she'd wake with enough clarity to examine Qi Xianqing's sleeves, finding bruises on her arms. Yan Jue knew all too well that these were from bites she'd given during her Gu-induced episodes.

Seeing these marks broke her heart, leaving her in a dazed silence.

One day, Qi Xianqing visited the Sutra Library.

When she returned, she heard strange sounds in the room.

"Nibble... nibble... nibble..."

With a frown, Qi Xianqing entered the room.

A gilded incense burner lay overturned, scattering ash everywhere; a table leg bore bite marks, and the bed curtains were in tatters.

The little fox sat with her back turned, her plump figure clearly visible—yes, plump. In just a few days, Qi Xianqing's doting had made her noticeably rounder.

Yan Jue was gnawing on a piece of wood she'd somehow unearthed.

Qi Xianqing quietly closed the door.

The fox's black ears twitched, and she immediately sprang up, trotting over with a wagging tail to greet Qi Xianqing.

Qi Xianqing caught her. "A-Jue, don't think that just because you look like this, I won't discipline you."

Her tone was low and a bit stern, causing Yan Jue's fur to bristle as she pressed against Qi Xianqing with a pitiful whine.

Yan Jue, in her current form, exhibited many of a spirit fox's mischievous traits. Qi Xianqing could only smile wryly.

She released her waist, stroked her fur, and asked gently, "Were you upset because you couldn't see me?"

So you decided to wreck the place?

The little fox rolled onto her back, looking up with an innocent gaze, perhaps understanding, perhaps not.

Qi Xianqing tapped her wet nose, hugging her close. "Alright, I forgive you."

During these days, Qi Xianqing hardly left the Ice Peach Grove, staying with the little fox and providing the utmost care.

On the tenth day, she finally received a message from Yun Zhen.

When Qi Xianqing entered the Autumn Pavilion, she was surprised to see someone standing beside Yun Zhen.

She paused.

The woman wore a pale, moonlit dress and her hair was styled into a coiled cloud bun. Her face was delicately powdered, her features sharp and beautiful, but her expression was somber.

Yun Zhen stood beside her with a gentle smile, murmuring something. The woman didn't respond, prompting Yun Zhen to pour her a cup of tea with a bow.

Qi Xianqing had never seen her esteemed master, normally so aloof, being so attentive.
