CHAPTER SEVEN - INNOCENT TILL PROVEN GUILTY

"I'm not trying to undermine your authority in anyway, Agents" Shoupe was sat down in his office chair with Brian, Hobbs and Deckard who had been told they could sit plenty of times but denied the offer each time "but you all had a clear shot of the two teenagers especially you, Agent O'conner, yet you didn't shoot? Are you forgetting they killed a cop? One of our own might I add"

Deckard scoffed "And might I just add their kids. We're here to catch the perp who killed Sheriff Peterkin and by doing that we use surveillance, speak to people we have in custody, witnesses and we will use any means possible to collect evidence but we don't just go popping of fucking kids because we think they might have killed a cop"

"I wear this badge with pride because I serve my people" Brian took out his FBI badge from his pocket "You might wanna rethink yours"

Hobbs cleared his throat "Now if you'll excuse us, we've got some work to be doing"

The judge struck the gravel twice in the court room "John Booker Routledge and Eleanor Ortiz-Toretto, pursuant to the North Carolina state section 14"

"Toretto-Routledge" Eleanor mumbled causing John B to give her a small smile.

"You are charged with murder in the first degree with aggravated circumstances" The judge said and Eleanor felt like she could be sick "If convicted, the maximum sentence would be the death penalty" As the gravel struck down, sealing their fate within the cold, imposing walls of the courtroom, Eleanor clenched her fists, the only physical manifestation of the storm brewing inside her.

Her face, a canvas of raw emotion, flushed with rage. The judge's voice echoed in her ears, inching closer to the verdict that felt like a noose tightening around her neck.

"Your Honor, this is bullshit!" She shouted, her voice cutting through the tense silence like a knife "We're being framed! Ward and Rafe Cameron orchestrated this whole thing! They're behind everything!"

The murmurs in the courtroom swelled as eyes turned towards her. John B shot her a worried glance, but her anger was an inferno, threatening to consume her. She continued, her voice rising in pitch as she looked over to where the Kooks were sat in their fancy suits and cocky faces "You all just sit there and believe his lies! Open your eyes for God sake! We're not murderers!"

Her lawyer, who knew her very well from past family issues, leaned in urgently, whispering harshly "El, please, sit down. This isn't helping our case"

But Eleanor was beyond reason, adrenaline coursing through her veins "What and let this man just ruin our lives? Rafe is the one with blood on his hands not us! Ward has money and power, and he thinks he can just play God with our lives! This isn't justice, it's a fucking witch hunt!"
