Married life has been treating Derek and Meredith very well. Right after the wedding they hopped on a plane and flew to Italy, the place Meredith always wanted to go but never could because of school, work or Aubrie. Their trip was exactly a week long, Monday morning they arrived, and they would leave the next Monday morning. Aubrie was being watched by Derek's mom who was staying at Derek's house until they got back to keep Aubrie in the surroundings she is used to.
"One whole week without a baby." Meredith said as they walked into their hotel suite in Italy which had a nice waterfront view from the balcony.
"One whole week without a baby." Derek repeated as he laid down on the bed. "It's so nice not to have someone that you have to watch and make sure they're not getting into things. It's wonderful." Derek said as he motioned to Meredith to lay down on the bed next to him.
"I've always had to worry about what she's doing and when she's doing it, so I am already loving the fact that we don't have to worry about it, but your poor mother. She really doesn't have to do it Derek, I can just call Alex or Izzie or my mom or someone and they can go get her and watch her." Meredith said as she laid down on the bed next to Derek while Derek out his arm around her waist and pulled her close.
"Meredith."
"Yes?" She asked.
"Shut up about Aubrie, my mother and everyone else, and just be here with me."
"I'm sorry it's the parent in me." She said as she left out a little laugh. "Let's take a nap." Meredith said.
"Or we could do something a little more fun than taking a nap." Derek said.

A couple days had past, Meredith and Derek d went to explore the city of Rome. They ate the typical Italian tourist foods, pizza, pasta, basically anything with spaghetti sauce. You'd be surprised, as little as Meredith is, she loves to eat and always needs to eat a lot at one time. You'd never know that Meredith was a tourist or not, she was practically a full blooded Italian and could speak the basic language.
"You're very happy to be here aren't you?" Derek asked Meredith who was walking next to him, looking at all the beauty Italy has to offer.
"Derek, I wished we could just pack everything up and move here. I know we can't but it's just so nice here." She said with the biggest smile on her face.
"Well, you never know. Maybe someday we'll become millionaires and we'll quit our jobs and move out here." Derek replied.
"If it was just me and you it would be the greatest thing." Meredith said back looking at his face waiting for a response.
"Just me and you? What, is it against the law to bring kids to Italy?" Derek asked.
A smile immediately appeared on Meredith's face. "It's not, but it's nice to be here alone. Maybe someday." Meredith said as they walked into the area of the Trevi fountain.
"We should make a wish." Derek said as he took two pennies and handed one to Meredith. "You know the drill right? Turn around, say the wish in your head, then throw it over your left shoulder."
"Got it." Meredith said as she turned around in sync with Derek and they both did just that.
"What did you wish for?" Derek asked.
"See, I can't tell you because you know the drill right? If I tell you, then the wish won't come true." Meredith said as she grabbed Derek's hand and started walking towards the street to grab a ride back to the hotel.

"You're shaking." Derek said as he held Meredith in his arms in bed.
"Well you would be too if you just experienced what I did." Meredith said with a chuckle. "I love being married. It's lovely." Meredith said to Derek looking over her shoulder.
"It feels different. Like we're more of a family now." Derek said.
"Mhm. I just can't believe it's our last day here. It doesn't feel like it should be over, but then again i'm also so excited to get back to Aubrie and everyone."
"Me too. I'm just not exactly looking forward to the 24 hour plane ride home to Seattle." He said with a chuckle.
"Well, it'll be 24 hours with me. On a plane, with bathrooms if you know what I mean." Meredith said as she sat up and put on Derek's shirt and walked into the bathroom. "I'm taking a shower before we leave, just in case you were curious." She said as she walked into the bathroom, taking off Derek's shirt before walking in, and Derek quickly got up and followed her in.

24 hours later, Meredith and Derek were back to Seattle and back to reality. They relieved Mrs. Shepherd of her duties watching Aubrie, who then left to catch her flight back to New York. Meredith and Derek were sitting in their living room, on the couch with Aubrie, both exhausted from the time change.
"You my dear, can go up to bed if you want." Derek said as she picked Aubrie up from the floor. "I'll watch her, and you can sleep for a while. You need some."
"Thank you." Meredith said as she kissed Derek, then Aubrie and went up to bed.
AN: I kinda have a love hate with this chapter, just because I wanted to get one up for you fairly quickly because I have no idea when i'll be able to sit and write again, because of work and family and stuff. The next chapter is going to be very interesting, so you wanna stick around for it :)
