AU: Should we start a time jump count because I feel like every other chapter is a time jump but I mean you kinda have to do time jumps when you write longer fanfics because they get really boring overtime without them I don't know let me know if you guys don't like time jumps and i'll do my best to avoid them. Anyways, here's this chapter, I hope you enjoy it!

Meredith returned back to work a month after Noah was born, Noah's almost 3 months old now. Derek started his Alzheimer's trial almost two months ago, and it's been going well. Noah started going to the daycare with Aubrie at the hospital when Meredith went back to work, and Aubrie loves every minute of it.

"Okay, so mommy's going to get you in a little while okay?" Meredith said to Aubrie as she brought her into the daycare.

"And Noah too?" She asked.

"Yes, and Noah too." Meredith responded as she kissed Aubrie on the head and with that Aubrie went on to play.

As the day went on, Meredith basically ran the neuro floor, with her group on interns and texted back and forth with Derek all day. That was her usual schedule and besides the surgery that would occur here and there with Shadow Shepherd, but honestly those were very rare. Alex and Lexie made their frequent visits up to neuro to "talk" to Meredith, but Meredith knew that Derek would hire spies to keep him in the loop of everything that was happening when he wasn't around.

"It's pretty slow up here right now." Meredith said to her interns. "I'm going to go see if any other departments need anything. You guys stay up here and page me if anything comes up." She told them as she headed to peds to find Alex, mainly to talk but to see if he needed someone up there to help.

"Hey, just the person I was looking for." Meredith said as she walked up to Alex who was charting at the nurse's station. "You know we have interns for a reason right?" She asked him as she looked at the charts.

"Yeah, but some of us didn't get brilliant ones. Mine have no idea what they're doing and they're impossible to teach so I do charts myself." Alex responded. "What are you doing up here? Shouldn't you be in neuro?" He asked.

"Technically yes... but we have nothing going on down there and honestly i'm not going to sit around all day doing nothing." Meredith responded.

"Well, all I have to offer is charting." Alex said.

"Hand some over." She said.

"You're a lifesaver." Alex said as he handed half the stack to Meredith. "Did you hear the rumor about the merger with Mercy West?" He asked her.

"No.. who'd you hear that one from?" Meredith asked.

"I heard Izzie say it to Cristina earlier and then I heard one of the nurses talking about cut backs and I put two and two together and came up with the merger." Alex said.

"Well, even if there is a merger do we really need to freak out?" Meredith asked.

"You have nothing to freak out about." Alex said. "Chief looks out for you. You're basically his little girl. Everyone else has to worry because we don't have someone to back us up on that."

"You know, i'm going to do everything in my power to keep you and the rest of us here. None of us deserve to get cut and even if there is a merger, I don't see any of us getting cut. We were picked to be here for a reason." Meredith responded.

"You're right. How's Derek's trial?" He asked.

"He doesn't really talk about it, which throws me for a surprise. I think it's going pretty well. He doesn't complain about it which means it's going good I guess." Meredith answered.
