The One Where Derek Tells

A few days have pasted, both Meredith and Derek had both been on cloud 9 since finding out they were having a boy.

"I know his name." Meredith said as she looked over to Derek who was driving home after the had worked.

"How do you know his name if he isn't even here yet?" Derek asked.

"Someone at work today said the name and I just had this feeling. I had the same thing with Aubrie, I was sitting in class the one day and the girl sitting next to me was talking to the girl sitting behind us and she said the name Aubrie and in the moment I knew that was her name." Meredith replied.

"So, what name do you have this amazing feeling about?" Derek asked.

"Noah. I know I had said I liked this name the other day, but hear me out. So, I was up in Peds with Alex earlier, and Robbins was talking to some nurse and she said the name and I just knew."

"Noah is incredibly cute, but I have a name idea too."

"Oh you do?" Meredith asked in a very interested tone.

"Mason. I mean I liked the name ever since well, Nancy had her daughter who she was told was a boy and she picked that name but when it was born and it turned out to be a girl obviously she wasn't naming her Mason, so I called the name after she was born so we kinda have to use it on one of our kids." Derek said as he looked at Meredith and waiting for a response.

"Let's talk about this later." Meredith said.

"Sounds like a plan, Mark asked me to go over to his apartment later.. figured i'd stop by in like an hour or so." Derek said as he parked in the driveway of their house.

"Okay, do you need my permission?" Meredith asked as she got out of the car and got Aubrie out of her car seat and walked into the house.

"No I don't need your permission." Derek said mocking Meredith. "I guess i'll just go now."

"Yeah, go now. I'll put Aubrie down for a nap and it'll be peaceful in this house for once." Meredith said as she quickly kissed Derek and picked Aubrie up to take her upstairs to take a nap.

Soon after, Derek arrived at Mark's apartment.

"This is very unlike you." Derek said as he grabbed a beer from Mark's fridge.

"What's unlike me?" Mark asked.

"Just to invite me over like this."

"Well I have 2 questions." Mark said.

"Yes and they would be?"

"I know Meredith said you can't tell anyone, but you kinda owe me, so what are you two having?" Mark asked.

"How do I owe you?" Derek asked.

"You owe me, because you lost that Super Bowl bet, and you never fulfilled your $200 bet, so this is you paying me $200."

"Fine, it's a boy. Do not tell anyone, Meredith would literally never let me hear the end of it if she found out I told you. What's your second question?" Derek replied.

"Wow. I was surprised you could make something masculine. Karev and I were betting on your kid. I said girl, so thanks Derek. Okay, so.. it's not really a question, but.. i'm dating Lexie, and it's a serious thing. Like it's not what Addison and I had in medical school, it's different. We have this connection and." Mark said before he was interrupted.

"Mark, you don't have to explain yourself to me, but you might have to explain yourself to Meredith. She seems to have some sisterly connection with Lexie ever since she was like 15 weeks, you can never separate the two of them anymore, so she's gonna be protective of her." Derek said.

"Oh, Meredith already knows. She knew a while ago, she told me not to tell you because you would be protective over Lexie, since she's your next big thing in neuro. Oh, also Meredith's mad that you aren't letting her on your service much anymore, apparently she wants to be Derek Shepherd 2.0." Mark replied.

"I know, and that's what scares me. I know she can be Derek Shepherd 2.0, and that kinda scares me if we're being honest. I mean, having 2 Shepherd's in the neuro world is enough, between Amelia who is like some neuro god apparently back at home.. I don't know if having 3 Shepherd's in this department is a good idea."

"Well, it's what she wants. That's what you're supposed to do. Make the residents happy. Especially since you two are supposed to separate work and marriage when you step into that hospital. At work, she's supposed to be your resident, and at home she can be your wife, don't let this be a conflict of interest. She was threatening to transfer to Seattle Pres which we know she won't do because her mother would never let her, but you know Meredith, nothing will stop her from getting what she wants."

"I'll put her back on my service then. I kinda convinced her to come to Seattle Grace specifically for the neuro department so I guess I owe her that."

"Ya kinda do."

"Guess what?" Derek asked Meredith as she walked into the house after coming home from Mark's.

"What?" Meredith responded.

"You're back on my service tomorrow."

"Really? Like permanently." Meredith asked excitedly.

"Yeah, like permanently." Derek said mocking her.

"Good. I hated only being on your service that one day this week. It was no fun knowing I had to go be on Sloan's service the next day. Speaking of Mark, I have 2 questions."

"Shoot." Derek said.

"Did he tell you about him and Lexie? And can we make him godfather?" Meredith asked.

"Yes. And oddly, i'm thinking that he would be a good person to leave our kid with if either of us die, so yes." Derek replied.

"Good. I'm glad. Obviously Lexie would be the god mother, so we only have like 1 more big decision to make." Meredith said.

"The name." Derek said.

"I was thinking about Noah Mason." Meredith said.

"I was thinking about Noah Alexander." Derek said.

"Alexander? I mean Noah Alexander is cute, but Alex would think we'd be naming the kid after him." Meredith said.

"Well we would be. I mean he's like your guy person, he's your best friend and he's been there for you always. I figured it would be a nice idea. Plus, i'm sure we'll have another boy down the line that we can name Mason, or after me or whatever." Derek said.

"No, I like that idea. Noah Alexander Shepherd. It flows nice." Meredith said.

"You don't want to put Grey in his name?" Derek asked.

"No. I don't want to put the poor kid through that. Grey doesn't deserve to be passed on. I don't have a brother or step brother for a reason. Grey deserved to end after my father." Meredith said.

"You are right, it flows very nicely. I like it."

"So it's official, Noah Alexander Shepherd."
