A couple weeks had past, Derek's whole family went back to New York and Connecticut... Except for Amelia who was hired at Seattle Grace to work under Derek. Neuro had the dream team, Meredith, Derek and Amelia. They were unstoppable together. It was also nice to have Amelia around because she was always up to watching the kids if Meredith and Derek ever needed someone to, since they felt bad for always asking Alex or Cristina.
As Christmas started to approach, so did all the famous Christmas injuries. Falling off ladders while putting up Christmas lights which caused brain bleeds.. this was the time of year that everyone in neuro waited for. The thrill of being able to cut into someone's brain basically everyday. With neuro being run by 3 people now.. 3 Shepherd's the department was unstoppable. It never had been run more smoothly.
"So.. I was thinking maybe your sister could watch the kids tonight and we can go out." Meredith said to Derek as they were walking up to the neuro floor after dropping the kids off at daycare.
"Yeah, sounds nice." Derek replied.
"What's wrong?" Meredith asked.
"Nothing." Derek said.
"You're being short with me." Meredith said.
"I'm just tired. You shouldn't have kept me up all night." Derek said smirking at Meredith while they stepped into the elevator.
"I kept you up all night?" Meredith asked. "If I recall correctly, you're the one that kept asking for more."
"Yeah.. Yeah. Whatever." Derek said. "But, you want to keep me up all night again, don't you?"
"You're the one that suggested this whole baby thing. I'm just trying to get a little fun out of it." Meredith said.
"Oh, just say yes." Derek said.
"Fine, yes." Meredith said as the elevator doors opened to the neuro floor where Amelia was at the nurses station looking through the charts.
"Hey." Meredith said as she stepped out of the elevator and walked towards her.
"Hi." Amelia replied.
"Busy day ahead of us?" Meredith asked.
"Not as of right now. But, things can change in a heartbeat." Amelia said.
"Right." Derek said. "Could you watch the kids for us tonight?" He asked. "We have a few things we need to get done in time for Christmas."
"Yeah, no problem." Amelia said. "I expect a really good Christmas present out of it, though."
"Oh, please." Derek said. "You love our kids."
"I do." Amelia said.
"So, you can just come over around 7, that way the kids will be in bed and fed and you really don't have to do anything." Meredith said.
"Will do." Amelia said with a smile.
Meredith and Derek continued on with their day. Christmas was a few weeks away and they really did need to get a few things for the kids, like a few little things.
When the time came to go home, Meredith went and got the kids from daycare and met Derek at the car.
"So, your Aunt Amelia is going to watch you guys tonight." Meredith said on the car ride home to the kids.
"Aunt Amy!" Noah said.
"Yeah! Aunt Amy." Meredith repeated. "She'll be here after you guys go to sleep tonight so you have to be extra good and sleep all night for her, okay?" Meredith asked.
"Okay, mommy." Noah and Aubrie replied at the same time.
The night went on and Meredith and Derek got the kids ready for bed. They fed them, bathed them and dressed them all in 2 hours so they would be in bed just in time for Amelia to come over and watch them.
"We really do need to go and get a few things for the kids tonight." Meredith said.
"I know." Derek said.
"So, we go shopping and then we go to the hotel." Meredith said.
"Yes." Derek said.
Amelia arrived at the house at 7:00 on the dot. All of the kids were asleep and Meredith and Derek were in a rush to get out the door.
"Thank you times ten million." Meredith said as she grabbed her coat and opened the door to leave the house.
Meredith and Derek drove to the mall and found a parking spot after about 20 minutes of trying to find a spot.
"We can't go in there." Meredith said.
"What?" Derek asked.
"We can't go in there." Meredith repeated.
"Again, why?" Derek asked.
"Go to the hotel." Meredith said.
"Okay.." Derek said.
"I've been thinking about this all day, and shopping isn't what I want to do right now." Meredith said.
With that said, Derek pulled out of the parking space and drove to the hotel.
