"Flight 389 to Seattle Tacoma International is now boarding" The flight attendant said over the loud speaker.
"Mom I have to go now. They're boarding." She said over the phone.
"You and Aubrie be safe now. I'll see you when you land, Meredith."
"Mhm." She said before hanging up the phone and putting it in her pocket, before picking up her little 1 year old daughter, Aubrie and placing her on her hip while walking up to the flight attendant, handing her two tickets, one for each of them and continuing on to the plane.
"Seats 33 & 34 are 3 rows away from the back, 33 is the window seat, 34 is the middle seat." The flight attendant on the plane said as she directed us to our seats.
"Thank you." Meredith said, as she placed Aubrie's car seat in the window seat, and placed her down in the seat seconds later.
"Can I help you with anything?" Meredith heard a voice behind her. A strong voice.
"No i'm okay thank you." She said before putting her bag in the overhead compartment and sitting down in the middle seat.
"Okay. Well lucky you, you get to sit next to me for the next 10 hours." The man said. "My name's Derek by the way." He said.
"Meredith, hi. Pretty full of yourself I can see." She said as she strapped Aubrie into her car seat, and then strapped herself in.
The flight attendant continued on to say the flight safety procedures, as we continued down the runway and took off.
"What's bringing you to Seattle?" Derek asked.
"Family. My mother, she's a doctor in Seattle and we're going up to visit her for the holidays, you?"
"I was in Boston visiting family, got called back for an emergency consult." The man said. "So that's your daughter?"
"Yeah, Aubrie." Usually Meredith wasn't one to speak to strangers, but this guy was different. He had something special about him. "Do you have any kids?"
"Nope. It's just me. My sisters have a lot of kids, so it's not like my mom's missing out on grand kids or anything."
"It's just us two, too. I just graduated from med school, I have a job lined up in Seattle, but I haven't decided if I want to stay in Boston, or move to Seattle."
"Well, I guess youll have a lot to think about when you're visiting. Mind me asking where you have your job lined up? I promise i'm not a stalker, I work at a hospital there, so I know a little about the way things run."
"Don't worry, you don't sound stalkerish. I have a job offer from Mercy West, but my mother isn't too fond of it. I got offered a job and Seattle Grace, which is the hospital i'm considering."
"All i'm going to say is that Mercy West isn't all it's made up to be. You won't be happy there. I can already tell that you are very smart, and you won't be learning anything there. Seattle Grace is the better option there."
"Good to know thanks." She said as she was interrupted by Aubrie's cries. "Sorry, she usually isn't like this. It's her first plane ride, so she's probably a little freaked out."
"No no, it's fine." He said as the flight attendant came over to us.
"Sir, is your daughter okay?"
"No, no she's not-" He was cut off by Meredith's voice. "She's fine." She said over me.
"You know, she's probably tired. This is really embarrassing, i'm sorry but she's fallen asleep to me singing the same lullaby to her since she was first born, so please try to tune me out." She said to him.
"I'll try my best."
Meredith began to sing the lullaby and Derek couldn't help but smile at how cute it was. Aubrie was out, in a second.
"You're smiling." She said.
"I am a happy person."
"I told you to tune me out."
"And I tried, but it didn't work.
"Okay. Well, even though you don't have kids, I know you've heard that whenever baby sleeps, mommy sleeps, so goodnight Derek."
"Goodnight Meredith."
