The One With The Explanation

AN: I hope you all had an amazing holiday season! I know I sure did. I meant to update the day after Christmas but I ended up going on a mini road trip sorta thing with some friends and didn't end up having anytime, but i'm finally able to update so yay! I hope you guys enjoy and I hope you have a very great and happy new year! 

"So." Derek said as him and Meredith were cleaning up the house after the party. 

"So." Meredith said back. 

"How far along are you?" He asked. 

"I think maybe 3 weeks and a couple days." She answered. 

"You think?" Derek asked. 

"Yes, I think. I didn't exactly think that this would happen this soon, so it was either the first time we really tried, or the second. So it fluctuates from like 5 weeks to 3 weeks." Meredith said. "You don't sound happy." Meredith said. 

"Are you kidding me?" Derek asked. "I am over the moon thrilled. I have never, ever been happier. It's everything i've ever wanted. I'm just shocked. Very shocked. But, it was the best Christmas present I ever been given, besides you." Derek said. 

"Good." Meredith said. "Because i'm really excited for this, and I really wanted you to be excited for it, and keeping it in was just hell for me.." Meredith was cut off by Derek's lips meeting hers. 

"I'm very excited for this." Derek said with a smile. 

The night went on and Meredith and Derek finally settled down from the excitement and went to bed. 

The next day at work, Meredith and Derek got a lot of stares. Word spreads fast when you work in a hospital. Words spread faster than germs. 

Meredith was put on this kids neuro case and Alex was the PEDS surgeon on the case with her. 

"So." Alex said. 

"You too? Really?" Meredith asked. 

"What?" Alex asked. 

"Nothing, Derek said the same thing to me last night." Meredith said. 

"Well, I mean you kinda dropped a huge bomb on all of us last night." Alex said. 

"Yeah, well it had to be put out there." Meredith replied. 

"I'm proud of you, kid." Alex said. 

"Why?" Meredith asked. 

"You're so grown up." Alex replied. 

"I really did." Meredith said. "Two kids changes you." 

"I guess so." Alex said. 

They went on to work on the case the rest of the day while Derek was working on a stent in the OR with Mark. 

"You're having another kid." Mark said during the middle of the procedure. 

"I am." Derek said with a smile. 

"You two are good together." Mark said. 

"I know." Derek replied. 

"You were supposed to say that Lexie and I are good together too." Mark said. 

"Oh. Well, you and Lexie are good together too." Derek said looking up and smiling at Lexie who smiled back. 

"I know." Mark replied. "I think if it's a boy, you should name him Mark." Mark said. 

"Well, I can't do that because one, Meredith would never let me do that, and two then the Mark Sloan legacy wouldn't be able to be passed down if you two ever have kids."  Derek said. 

"True." Mark said looking up at Lexie who was basically red in the face at this point. 

"Can I leave?" Lexie asked. 

"Um.. Yeah go check on my patient in 307." Derek said.

Lexie left and went to check on the patient, after checking on the patient she went to go look for Meredith.

"Meredith." Lexie said as she ran up next to her.

"Are.. you okay?" Meredith asked.

"No.. I mean yes.. I don't know." Lexie said.

"What's wrong?" Meredith asked.

"Mark sees a future, a big one with kids. Him and Derek were talking about the baby's name and Derek said that we had to name our future baby Mark and I just don't know. I've never really looked into the future like that." Lexie said.

"Lexie. Chill. You two are destine to be together. It's basically meant to be." Meredith said. "Time will tell and the rest of it will fall into place."

"You are the best sister ever." Lexie said as she hugged Meredith and started walking away.

"Maybe if it's a girl, we'll name it after you!" Meredith said imitating Derek and Mark's conversation as Lexie walked away.

AN: GUYS OMG. I had this chapter saved for literally ever. I thought I pressed publish but I didn't and I feel so bad. But here's your typical filler chapter. I hope you guys enjoy!
