It had been 2 weeks since the new interns arrived. All was well, nothing really major happened, like nobody died on an interns watch. It had also been 2 weeks since Meredith and Derek had the talk about the chief job and the baby talk. They really hadn't talked much about it since, they kinda just let everything fall into place.
"So, I got a memo from the board today." Derek said.
"Yeah, and?" Meredith asked.
"They want me to take Richard's position for a week, and see how I do. If all goes well, they'll ask me to be the permanent chief if I want it."
"Well, that is great. You want it right?"
"I mean yeah, of course it'll be like 30 grand more a year, which is nice if we're planning on another kid, I mean she's costs you and I a pretty penny and she's only been here 2 and a half years." Derek replied.
"I know. Kids are expensive but I think you'd be a good chief. You're just that kind of person."
"Mmm. I don't know now. I feel obligated to take the position because I mean who else will do it?"
"I don't know but all i'm saying is you would be really good at the job and it was obviously meant for you to do."

A week passed. Derek had been chief for a week. He did an amazing job. He was always on top of everything and did such a good job at balancing everything and making sure everything was done in a timely manner, he just ran the hospital really well. He was able to manage the paperwork and the surgeries he had to perform well, surgeries over paperwork obviously, but that's how it was expected.
"Meredith." Derek called from the bedroom, she was in Aubrie's room getting her in bed, but she came right in.
"Yes?" She asked as she sat on the bed next to him.
"They offered me the job." He said.
"Well what are you going to do?" She asked.
"I think i'm going to take it. It was a lot better than I had expected. Smooth sailing. The extra money would be nice too, it'll help with the dream house. I think it'll be a good thing for us."
"Me too. I'm glad you got the offer. It'll be a nice change of pace for you." Meredith said as she kept her eyes on Derek's hand which she was lacing her fingers in with his.
"What's wrong?" Derek asked.
"Nothing. Why?"
"Well, usually you look me in the eyes when we talk, and you're not. Which makes me nervous. What's wrong with you?"
"Not a thing. If there was something I would tell you. I'm just really tired." Meredith replied as she slipped herself under the covers and laid her head on Derek's chest.
"Well, go to sleep then. You seemed pretty tired all day today."
"That's the plan. Goodnight."

The next morning came and Meredith and Derek both got up at the crack of dawn to get up and get ready for work. They got up, got ready and Aubrie dressed and fed in under an hour (which is a new record for them).
"You look like crap." Cristina said as Meredith walked into the residents lounge at work.
"I'm exhausted. I haven't slept like at all the last 3 days." Meredith replied.
