Chapter 8
It was two days before the Spooky Saturday Swing that Vriska called everyone to her house to see their costumes. Some of us were excited. Most were dreading what they were going to be shoved into. Like me.
Knowing Vriska for years (admittedly from the side lines and rumours) whatever she picked for us will be horror filled for everyone. Unless she somehow had common sense knocked into her by her older and mature sister. Which I hoped was more likely then what Sollux had been torturing me with the entire ride to her large house.
Vriska was considerably, more or less, on the rich side. But she was still on a strict allowance so we all wondered where she got the money to buy us this stuff. Eridan and Damara guessed she begged her older sister or her mother for extra money because Eridan swears he wasn't apart of it. As did Gamzee, who said he was too busy trying sleeping to be anywhere near her.
Her house was larger then most. A royal blue with a black trim, it stood two stories tall and was about two houses wide. Black stone pillars marked the front porch and a rainbow glass pathway led us to the black and gold front door. Already the mansion like house was covered in Halloween decorations, corners covered with webs and other creepy things.
Kankri had knocked politely on the doorway when I arrived behind Roxy, who was already slightly drunk. She had stolen another small glass of liquor from her mother but Dirk and I had it taken away until the amber eyed girl could form a coherent sentence.
"Welcome. You must be Vriska's friends. It's so nice of you to come. "
Mrs. Serket (or Mindfang as other adults called her) was an odd woman, about as odd as both her children. She liked to dress in an assortment of flowy shirts, tight pants, and the occasional ripped, blue jacket and a large hat on top of her head.
She allowed us in with a smirk and closed the door behind us, walking away with the promise of food and drinks.
"This way, people. Her room is this way," Eridan said. He flung his cape behind him and walked with his British poise up the stairs as we followed him. Damara was copying his every move, making Roxy and Gamzee laugh and Ampora turn and wonder what was so funny. I snorted a few times here and there, when Damara got extremely exaggerated.
He and Kankri seemed glad to finally reach the large blue door at the end of the hall. A gold 'V' was stuck in the centre as more fake webs covered the rest of the wood. Kankri, being Kankri, politely knocked and gave warning to her on who was there. We nearly wanted to sigh in anguish at him naming all eight of us but the door swung open in time.
On the other side, Vriska smirked and was dressed like her mother, in extravagant clothes and a hat on her head.
"Took you guys look enough," she said as we clambered in.
"Well, it take'th th'ome of u'th a while to get here from th'cool without a proper ride, ya know," Sollux said. The brunette girl rolled her eyes but guided us around her large room.
Clothes were strewn across the place, as were other belongings, and I nearly wondered what else was hiding in these piles. But I was pulled inside a walk in closet I'm sure most of us were jealous about.
"So what did you get us, Vwiskers?" I asked. I pawed at some clothes, as I looked around some more.
"I took a long hard look at every available costume store, looking for outfits for all of us. And I'm so glad I did because if it weren't for me, you'd all be going naked to that dance." She placed her hands on her hips in triumph.
「ちょうどそれに乗ります。」
"Chill it, Megido. Don't want all of your panties in a twist." Vriska walked around the closet, handing each of us an outfit before ushering each one of us to try it on for the others. Of course everyone left the closet with their items before letting the other change.
