Holy balls, it's been a long time since I've updated. I'm so sorry I made ya'll wait. I figured having a balanced life would be fine again but turns out I'm just more tired with a job and school... heh heh...

Anyways it's a 10-based chapter! Which means it's a third POV chapter!!! :D

Also let me know if the plot isn't moving very fast. I noticed that there weren't a lot of views last chapter and even though it's been a while since things have been updated and stuff (both for the fandom and the story) it's a little disheartening for a fanfiction writer anyways...

Chapter 30

**3rd POV**

The Vantas' family car easily slid to a stop in front of the high school, a sense of deja vu falling over the two passengers in the back of the car. Hopefully, though, they both hoped that no spiking of punches should occur on this night. Considering who's attending, there shouldn't be any alcohol under the watch of so many dad's and dad friends.

"Have a fun night you two~!" Mr. Vantas called out. "Don't do anything I wouldn't do!!"

"We won't, dad," Kankri called back, polite as ever. "If we need anything, I will call for a ride home." Then he guided Nepeta inside the building and towards the gym, where the dance was being held. Nepeta gave a small smile and wave at Mr. Vantas before he drove off.

Kankri sighed once they were inside. "I must apologize about my father, Nepeta," he started. "He's been a bit excited during the whole preparation of the dance since I told him I was going. I... I normally don't go to formal or informal organizations like dances. The Halloween dance was a surprise and this one, on top of that, is like giving a child candy before bedtime to him."

Nepeta chuckled.

"It's find, Kan," she said. "Though, I have to admit that your family certainly has it's characters. It surprises me that someone to giddy had kids that turned out, well, not as giddy as he was... sorry, if that was a bit offending."

"No offense taken," Kankri laughed. "My father, compared to Karkat and I, are indeed completely different that you are not the first to question our relations. However, the fact that we look so alike makes many question more on who has raised us."

"Oh yeah, you guys definitely do look alike."

The two didn't talk again until after they got inside and saw many girls dancing with their dads, a lot of them just milling about with other dads while girls twirled around in their dresses with other girls their age. Many were in middle school or elementary, but Nepeta caught some glimpses of familiar faces.

"Is... Is that Vriska? But, she said she didn't even have a dad?" Nepeta said, peering through the crowd as best as she could. She could see that the girl was wearing a black dress with blue sheer cloth over the skirt and puffed sleeves that went all the way down to her wrists. It was a different kind of dress that Nepeta has seen her wear, but it did look very nice.

"Nepeta! Kanny! You actually came to this dance, I still can't believe it." Vriska pushed her way through, pulling someone along with her.

Nepeta snorted. "I can't believe you even showed up, considering the fact that you didn't even like the idea of the dance in the first place," she replied once the dark haired girl got closer. Then she noticed who she was pulling along.

Gamzee looked about as chill as ever in his horridly polka-dotted dress shirt and dark slacks, a sloppy grin on his face. His unruly hair was somewhat tamed and Nepeta wondered what on earth managed to do that? Or who on earth?

"And why is Gamzee here?"

"I, for one, wanted to see if you even managed to do it in the first place. Gamzee didn't have anything to do and I didn't want to come here alone, so I dragged him along anyways. Besides, it's not like I care what happens if we couldn't come, at least I'd get to have the ability to make Gammy here look somewhat nice." Vriska had puffed out her chest at that.

Don't know if that's something to really be proud of, Kankri and Nepeta both thought, but didn't comment it out loud. They didn't want a surprisingly genuinely pleased Vriska to suddenly turn into a horrible monster.... Besides, it could've been worse.

"Anyways, Kankri, you wanna dance for a bit?" Nepeta said. She turned to her date, holding out a hand towards the black haired boy. Kankri, dressed copmletely in all black aside from a bright red tie tied neatly around his collar,  smiled and grabbed her hand with his, leading her to the dance floor where some other dads-and-daughters where dancing around.

Kankri and Nepeta stood a bit off to the side, getting into position as the song changed to a slow waltz. With a hand, politely, on her waste, Kankri guided the blonde girl along with the tempo. Some couple were joining in, though Gamzee and Vriska stood off to the side.

"It's strange to think of those two dancing together, all things considered...." Vriska whispered, arms crossed in front of her. "Kankri looks so much like Karkat....You'd think this was for Nep to dance with who she thought was her true love, right?"

"Naw," Gamzee replied. He blinked slowly, eyes never straying from the dancing pair as a lazy grin slid onto his face. "Nepeta wouldn't do that. She's one of those people that can see the differences in others, ya know? Kankri is Kankri, not Karkat."

"You sound very confident in that."

"I know Nepeta."

Then he walked in through the throng of the dancing families to join in, making the duo into a threesome. Vriska sighed, but followed after, not wanting to be left alone on the sidelines longer than she needed to be.

Sorry for the really long wait. I got distracted easily and haven't really been in a Homestuck mood. I think ever since it ended I lost interest a bit but I went through some old stuff and even joined a subreddit for it that I wanted to do some more with it. Hopefully this satisfies you guys for a bit haha.... I hope......
