Chapter 9
The day of the dance, everyone managed to drag themselves away from their daily lives and get their butts to Vriska's before 4. My mother, back from her trips with Mr. Vantas, had proudly displayed her pleasure in the fact that I was actually going to a dance with someone besides Equius for the first time in years. So she drove me with the windows rolled down as her favourite happy music blasted out from the speakers for everyone to hear. I'm thankful it takes a lot to embarrass me.
I was one of the last to arrive, which meant I was ushered inside by Vriska to put on my costume. She and the others were already in theirs and it was almost time for us to drive out to the dance. Mrs. Serket had specifically requested a limo be brought up to us so she didn't have to drive us and it would also allow her to show off her money. Rich people confuse me.
As soon as I was in the closet, the costume was thrown at me and I quickly put it on before stepping out and being rushed over to the vanity on the other side of the room by Damara. She was in her geisha outfit, which I still find extremely beautiful on her. Her hair was still up, but she added jeweled chopsticks to her bun this time.

She put on my make up, which I tried to get out of but the others wouldn't have it. It was strange to be in so much make up. And what was even stranger was that someone had made Gamzee take off his usual face paint so his entire face was clean.
And boy was he handsome.
I bet my entire savings that once people see how good looking he is at the dance, there would be blood all over the walls, if you know what I mean.
When Damara was done, I had gold eye shadow around my eyes, black mascara, and fake jewels curving around the outer part of my left eye. They thankfully left everything untouched cause I was sure my cheeks would itch like hell if they managed to put blush on me.
The last person to arrive was Sollux, who dressed while grumbling into the matching costumes he and Eridan wore. They all looked nice considering we only had these for about two days and it was an odd sight to see, but I had to hold back a cry of approval at how good we looked.
It was after Sollux settled into his attire that Vriska moved into action, pushing us all out of her room and towards the Limo. The chauffeur opened the door and we all stumbled in. I was self conscious of my skirt lifting and showing whoever was behind my my underpants but it went away once I was distracted by the interior.
Everything was a different shade of cerulean. There were silk pillows on the Sears, a blue chandelier over a drink station, and the rug was even a dark, royal blue. Windows were tinted so it looked like someone bombed the world with the paint that the Blue Man Group uses. It was entirely fascinating.
I sat next to a grumpy Kankri who looked about as pleased as a three year old throwing a tantrum. But he forced a smile on his face once he noticed me looking.
"I'm sorry you had to come with us, Kankri," I said. "If it makes you feel better, none of us wanted to go either."
"It is alright, Nepeta. As much as I feel gratitude towards your concern, I must say I am rather glad to be out of the house on such a busy night. Usually I am alone while my father goes to work and my brother heads to the dance himself, so it is a nice change of pace for me. But, as triggering as this may sound, I do not feel very comfortable with everyone's attire during this time of year," he said. He danced his fingers over his toga and slight distaste before grasping at it.
"But it shall do."
"Uh huh..."
The limo started up as soon as I said that, turning away from the house and towards the school. Already you could see some of the goers leaving their own homes and heading over to the dance.
