Y'all, I forgot the giggly feeling I get when I update a new chapter and read all the reactions.
Here's a lil surprise ♥️

The next day Luther walked down the hall towards Hendrik's study.

The few maids cleaning up the hall saw him and bowed. The second he left their view, one of the maids raised her blushing face, hitting her colleagues arm in alarmed excitement.

"Did you see that?"

The other two girls nodded with matching blushing faces. "The Young Master! He just came back from training, his shirt looked slightly undone."

"So?"

The other maids looked at the new clueless maid. "Did you not see? He had bruises all over his open collar!" The maids quietly squealed. "It means someone warmed his bed last night!"

"Was it one of the other maids?"

They quickly went back to sweeping as they quietly conversed over who it might have been. They were all secretly well versed in the art of gossip, especially when it came to the infamous handsome Young Master's activities.

Luther sat down in front of Hendrik's large oak desk while the older man looked over paperwork.

"What's your relationship with Ector Kane?"

Hendrik looked up at him tiredly, he took off his reading glasses and his eyebrows shot up in surprise as if it were a slow motion shot.

"What is on your neck?" His eyebrows raised higher.

Luther could see him categorizing the rest of his appearance. His sat languidly in a loose open lace tunic, clearly showcasing all that Reid imparted to him without shame nor care. His hair sat in a loose bun, not even giving the option to cover the markings.

"Is that what you were doing so late last night?"

"That's of no concern to you. Answer the question."

"You get a girl pregnant, you tell me." Hendrik pointedly stared him down.

Luther showed no reaction but inwardly he was rolling his eyes. He only stared back at him coldly, waiting for an answer to his question.

Hendrik sighed, "Ector Kane is a sly old man, the previous head of Abravel had close ties to him. A family friend you could say. Kane was also my wife's uncle."

Luther's eyes widened imperceptibly.

An uncle killed his niece.

This man was more ruthless than Luther previously thought.

"That man always had something in mind when he came around here. It's been years and I still have yet a reason to like him." Hendrik spoke as if he were thinking of something distasteful and revolting. And it was clear he hadn't the slightest inclination to Kane's connection with his wife's death.

"Are you aware?"

"Of?"

Luther looked grim towards the man in front of him.

"Ector Kane is poisoning the King."

Hendrik laughed out in disbelief. "On what basis? Sure the man is a cunning snake, but it's hard to believe he'd dare to do such treachery."

Luther reached and slid over the original file containing the detailed account of the King's downfall along with accounts of several shipments received over decades from a distant barren village with nothing to offer. Other than an untraceable and undetectable poison. Luther waited for realization to sink in as Hendrik read through the document.
