It's For The Best

Who knew I would end up here with so many years ahead of me? Cooper said this was the only option for us, and maybe he's right, but why does this feel so wrong? My mind comes back to reality when the doctor tells me my side effects. "If you start bleeding too heavily, come back as soon as possible," the doctor said. I shake my head as I get off the examination table, feeling shame wash over my body as I exit the door of this place.

"You couldn't even be there by my side," I say with disappointment in my voice. "Freya, you knew I had this big meeting at the office," he said, annoyed. "This wasn't even my decision, stop making it seem like you gave me a choice," my voice cracks as my eyes begin to water. He laughs in my face.

"Well, I have a business to run and SDR isn't bringing in enough money. That's why you should work for me instead," he said, looking into my eyes as if he had no sympathy for me.
"You want me to need you so bad. I love my job, so what if you make more money than me, Cooper. That's your problem. You think so highly of yourself, we know you're the CEO of the company, you don't have to go around telling everyone. The magazines talk, and the news reporters don't miss a thing, so humble yourself," I say, walking away from his childish behavior.

I secretly cry as the water hits my skin. He wasn't always like this. There were date nights and staying up all night in college, knowing we had class the next day. But slowly, those parts of him started to fade away. Maybe it was the spotlight that turned him into someone I never knew.

My friend June noticed it before I did, so that made me question what she saw. Seeing it for myself with proof, somehow he made it seem like it wasn't new. So I live in his shadows, scared of what I'm going to face.

My mind comes back to reality when I feel his presence behind me. "I love you," he whispers into my ear, slowly sliding his hands down my body. "The doctor said I had to wait a week," I say, exiting the shower. "How was work today?" I say, trying to make light out of the situation. He walked by me as if I said nothing to him, but I was used to him acting immature. I guess that's what happens when you grow up with a silver spoon in your mouth. With my nightgown on, I walk into our bedroom, just to be met with emptiness.

Where is Freya? Her friend June asks me. "She has a big day at work tomorrow," I say before my friend Waylon pulls me to play beer pong with them.

"Let's see if you still got it, Cooper," he said loudly. Before I knew it, time got the best of me, and I was getting helped into my house. "It's 2 in the morning, we're not in college anymore," she said with tiredness in her voice. "I didn't ask you to take care of me," I yelled. "You didn't have to," she said, walking away like she always does.
It's the next morning, and I always regret the decisions I made. I hold my head in my hand as I slowly walk to the bathroom, popping two Ibuprofen into my mouth. I don't even get a "Good morning" when she steps out of the shower. Then memories come crashing through my mind of how I was a jerk to her.
I laugh out loud. "That makes sense," I think to myself. I'm not going to do the one thing she wants because I don't owe her anything. And why should I have to apologize if I don't see anything wrong in what I did?

Watching as she puts on her tight red dress, it sticks to her body. I bet she loves the attention and the looks they give her when she walks into the room. "Mine," I say, sliding my hand down her body, makes sure everybody in that little office knows that.

"That's the least of your worries," she said as she was about to walk away before I pulled her into a kiss. "Miguel is waiting for me," she said impatiently. "That's what I pay him for. I'll pick you up at five," I said, not giving her time to speak.
"Good morning, Ms. Madden," Chloe said with a smile. "It's still Gadsdon," I said, looking at the big diamond ring on my left finger. "Soon to be," she said, taking all my things off my desk. "What are you doing?" I asked, confused. "You didn't hear? You get an office, you're our new staff accountant," she said nonchalantly. "Wait, what happened to Josie?" "Oh, she works for Mr. Madden now," she replied casually. "Why did the company pick me out of all the people?"
