At first, I was confused. That changed fast when I heard the crowd of people screaming like they had just met their favorite celebrity. I looked down to see Cooper on one knee with a big fat diamond ring in his right hand.
I knew what everyone was expecting of me to say, and he knew that too. I could live with this psychopath and make the worst of it, or I could make this the best opportunity for me. My mouth began to open as he said, "Freya, will you marry me?" "Yes," I said, shaking my head yes so the crowd could know my answer. I did love Cooper, but the things he did made me question if he ever loved me.Flashback End
"What do you want, Cooper? I already did what you asked," Summer said as I stepped into her house. "That was a mistake on my end, I need you to try and replace June." "Freya will never pick me over June, they've been friends since high school," Summer said while handing me a bottle of water. "June is getting smart and picking up on my moves. I won't dare let her snatch Freya right from under my eye." "So what's in it for me?" Summer asked, about to touch my arm before I stopped her hand.
"You had the audacity to hug her and act sorry. You're still that sneaky person who wants attention. Forget I ever asked," I said, walking out of her door. "I know what's best for her, and if Freya doesn't be careful, she's going to keep getting hurt in the end with people like Summer." "How did everything go with my mother?" I asked her over the phone. "Well, will you be here on time for lunch?" she asked. "Yes, darling, heading home now," I said, "Okay," she replied.Looking down at the message that Summer sent me, "Tell your soon-to-be husband to stop coming over to my house." I knew there were two sides to every story, but 9 out of 10 times, Cooper probably played the bad side to this story. Maybe I shouldn't judge him, but he only gave me reasons to, so why not stay away from the problem? I'm not dumb for him. I was never dumb. I just chose to keep my mouth shut, act like I didn't know anything or hear the rumors. That's what you do when you love someone. You just hope the problem will go away.
"What's this?" I asked Cooper when he walked into the room. Giving my phone to him, he just laughed out loud as he read the text. I looked at him with a confused expression, but he didn't say anything. He just walked into the bathroom. Maybe June was right; once you easily forgive someone, they feel the need to hurt you all over again. But this time, I was tired of everyone and just needed to get away so I could breathe without someone telling me how to.Walking into my walk-in closet, packing the first thing I saw as tears filled up my eyes, the hurtful feeling I felt in my heart. I knew I didn't want to leave, but I knew that if I stayed, we would get nowhere. "Where do you think you're going?" he asked with a voice that made me jump when I walked out of the closet. "I'm tired, that's all," I said, still packing my things until he snatched it out of my hand. "What do you want?" he asked. "For my fiancé to talk to me, but you can't even do that," I cried.
"I didn't do anything wrong," Cooper yelled into my face. Pulling out his phone to play audio, he put it to my ear. "What's in it for me?" I heard Summer's voice say as I heard hands stop by another one. "She wanted me, but I stopped her," he said. "You could have just told me that when I asked, but you let me jump to conclusions," I said, looking up at him. "Because you're supposed to trust me, that's all I ever asked for you to do," Cooper said, walking away from me."If that's the case, you don't trust me because all you do is hide things from me. I always have to guess when it comes to you," I said, looking at him. "The less you know, the better. I'm just protecting you," he said, laying down on the bed.
"Why? Because I'm not strong enough to do it myself or because that gives you power over me?" I asked him. "Darling, come here," Cooper said. I walked up to him slowly as he pulled me beside him on the bed. "I know what's best for you. I understand you want to know what's going on, but that's what I'm here for. I don't want you to worry about anything," he said as he played with my hair.
