_Jailanee's Perspective
_Today was a big day for me. This is what I have been waiting for, the fact that this is about to happen feels surreal. The pst couple weeks have been hectic, but I am grateful to be put in the position.
As I sat in the front row my palms became sweaty and my breathing became staggered. The overwhelming feeling wasn't uncomfortable, more-so accepting. I thought it was going to take a longer time for me to hit the point, but either way I couldn't be more pleased.
"Now we will welcome the new official head director of this corporation, Jailanee Forest." The former director, Ryan Hill spoke. He stood on the gigantic stage in-front of the entire facility as he welcomed me. Ryan was a fairly older white man, roughly mid 60s, he didn't look a day over 30 though.
I will be taking his spot once he retires. This position would require me to have management across many finance companies across the U.S. With my company ranking #1 in the USA two years ago and still holding that spot til this day, it put me in the candidates to be given this position.
I headed towards the stage with my head held high. Every nerve in my body was shaking, I was overwhelmed with excitement. The clapping of the audience motivated me, each step I took getting closer to the stage made my stomach drop.
I will be owning this moment though. I deserve this. I pushed everything aside and stood tall.
"Thank you so much Mr. Hill," I whispered as I turned to him, giving him a hug before giving my speech. "Thank you to everyone. Especially to my team, without them I would not be here today. They have driven me to provide the best version of myself. The drive that I have for this corporation is unmatched.
I can assure you every last one of you wonderful people are in the best hands and I will do everything in my power to make sure this business continues to run smoothly. Thank you." I concluded.
Everyone cheered again, clapping for me while I exited the stage. All my worries went away once I spotted Kamya in the crowd of audience. She stood on the top floor looking down at me with pure admiration. Her eyes glistened with support, something I didn't know I needed until we locked eyes.
I gave her a warm smile which she returned back to me. It took me a while to have enough courage to tear my eyes away from her. Her beautiful brown eyes had a hold on me and I found myself wishing someone has always looked at me like that. Made me feel secure, like she just did.
Once I managed to pull away from her gaze, I proceeded to my seat as I waited for the nomination ceremony to be over. There were a few more people being nominated and promoted due to many former people retiring. I wanted to pay my respect and congratulate everyone.
The ceremony took roughly over three hours to finally come to an end. Everyone congratulated me once we made contact and I congratulated them as well.
I finally made it outside, once I spotted Mya I made my way towards her. She wore a white button up and some black slacks, her hair was down as well. Mya looked absolutely beautiful like always, everything complimented her well.
"Congratulations Jai!" She beamed as she clung to me. "I' m so proud of you."
I hugged her back. "Thank you, that means a lot."
"You're welcome. C'mon let's go, I'll drive." She spoke eagerly before taking my keys out my pocket and directing me to the car, Mya practically dragged me to the car.
"Damn slow down." I laughed trying to keep up with her.
The car ride back to the house was chill. Mya spoke nonstop about how much she was proud of me. It made me feel good knowing I have someone that actually expressed that they were proud of me. Mya has always been supportive since we met and always gave me the freedom to excel more in my job.
"So we having a celebration party?" She turned to me and asked with a smile evident on her face.
"Nah." I simply said. I don't need a celebration party.
"What you mean 'nah'?" She nearly broke her neck looking at me.
"I don't really need one."
Mya didn't say anything, she just kept driving. The rest of the car ride was peaceful, we sat in comfortably silence. We made it to the house a few minutes later being that I didn't live that far from the building the ceremony was held at.
Kamya still had a hold of my keys, she unlocked the door pressuring me to wall in first. My eyes darted towards the decorations that were in my apartment. She had my favorite color, blue, balloons everywhere and ones in the back that spelled out 'congratulations.'
My face lit up instantly. "Thank you!" I almost yelled. "When you even had time to do this?" I questioned still in disbelief a little.
"Don't worry about all of that, I have my resources. Just enjoy your celebration." She smiled.
"I'm a little worried, you've only been to my house once." I chuckled.
"Shh." Mya placed her index finger over my lip causing me to smile.
We were now on the couch eating the cake Mya made for me. Yeah, I wasn't aware she was a baker either. This cake bomb!
"I'm glad you made it out here." I confessed.
"You know I wouldn't miss it."
"Yeah, you enjoy you some sexy." I teased her.
She gave me a mug. "You aggy. I can't breathe without you bringing that up."
"Nope. Let sexy make it up to you though," I winked. "What you trying to get into?" I teased some more.
"Bro, you gay," She laughed hysterically. "Move Jai."
I smacked my teeth. "You know you love it when sexy sweet talk you." I put on my best light skin face.
She looked at me with utter disgust. "Jailanee." Mya laughed.
"Just kidding, I guess. I got some stuff planned for tomorrow though. You down?" I questioned.
"What we doing?"
I smiled. "It's a surprise. I lowkey wished we spent more time together the last time you were out here." I spoke.
"We were literally out that whole day." Mya implied.
"Not the point," I rolled my eyes looking away from her. "Matter fact you don't even have a choice. I got some shit planned and you going end of discussion." I sassily spoke.
"Uh-oh, yes ma'am."
