Jailanee's perspective
__

I headed to my bathroom to take a hot shower. I wahsed off all the stress and dirt of the day and it always seemed to relax me. I picture all my worries getting washed down the drain.

After my shower, I walked to the kitchen to warm up some leftovers. The other day I made some gumbo and rice for dinner, that's what I warmed up to eat tonight.

When I was finished I made my way down the hall to my room. My bed felt comfortable I engulfed myself in the sheets. It dawned on me that I needed to call Mya. I reached for my phone and my finger lingering over her contact, mya <3. My mind flooded with the questions I wanted to ask.

Before I knew it her face lit up on my phone. She was sitting on what appears to be a gaming chair. It seemed like it was her room because in the back above her bed there laid a black wooden letter 'K' on the wall.

"You should've specified that you were going to facetime me." She spoke playfully. Her voice took me by surprise. Now that I thought of it I never heard her voice. Very feminine, of course, but with a teeny touch of raspiness. Her slight accent peaked through her words as well, not too heavy.

She set the phone up on the desk she sat at. I'm guessing she was studying because there were notebooks and highlighters consuming her desk.

Mya took her glasses off before glancing at the screen."You not going to speak?" She asked calmly.

I analyzed her through the screen. She wore a black tee, her locs were tied back in a low ponytail, and she had a gold name plated necklace reading, Kamya. The color of her locs complimented her entirely well.

"You been working all day?" I finally spoke with a hint of curiosity. Earlier when I texted her she told me she was catching up on work, but still?

She closed her notebook, then picked up all the highlights that scattered the desk and placed them in the holder they belonged. "Yep," she popped the 'p'. "I took like a 3 hour break earlier, but I just finished."

Mya got up and grabbed a blue hoodie that was lying at the end of her bed before slipping it on.

"Girl it's not that cold." I spoke.

"For you maybe. My folks keep the ac blasting, literally." She rolled her eyes. Mya came back to her seat and just stared into the camera. Creep.

"Why you staring so hard lil girl?" The sight was amusing to me, I cracked a small chuckle.

"I'm waiting for you to flood me with questions. Surprise you didn't bombard me as soon as I answered. And how you facetimed me but all I see is your forehead?"

I was laying down on the bed and didn't feel like positioning the phone properly. "I'm trying to ease into it girl, relax. Let me go to the living room."

I angled the phone properly once I got situated on the couch. My whole face emerged into the camera, which caught Mya's attention, her gaze lingered on me.

"Wait, where u from? Your accent caught my attention and that ain't no Floridan accent." I asked suddenly out of curiosity.

"I'm from New York," she twirled in her spinning chair. "I lived there most of my life, but I've lived about everywhere for short periods of time. I just recently moved to Florida a few months ago."

"What about you? Where you from?" She questioned me, turning her attention back to the phone.

"This about me getting to know you," I glanced over to see her rolling eyes, the attitude is already arising. Oh god help me. "I hope that was a playful eye roll."

"Girl you act like I'm a demon," she laughed. "I wanted to get to know you as well, but I'll wait."

I hummed in response. "What you do with your free time?"

"I feel like I'm doing an icebreaker on the first day of class." We both laughed at the comment she made. It did feel as such, but in a sense this is an icebreaker. "I enjoy fashion so I make clothes here and there. I also like music, I can play almost any instrument you can name.

I'm working on learning the guitar better," she carried on. "Hm what else." She briefly thought for a second as she looked at the ceiling searching for an answer.

As she thought, I turned on the TV for background sound. I searched for some music to put on. Most of the time, I would have R&B playing lightly throughout the house. I can't stand a dead silent house.

My music peeked Mya's interest. "Girl, what you know about Jill Scott?" She asked me eagerly.

"This my wife lil girl. You a baby what you know about her."

"Shit everything."

I continued questioning her for the rest of the night. Before you knew it midnight rolled around the corner. We spent the night talking endlessly about everything. We got to know each other on a better level than before.

This is the first time in a long time I devoted my time for someone like this. Reason why I'm a 'loner' is because I stick my head in my work. I'm work driven, a workaholic, and I don't allow people to distract me. But, I'm feeling this..

Maybe we could just be friends.
