_Kamya's Perspective
_"You finally home. You was MIA all boo'd up with your boo and shit." Jazmine walked into my room pestering me.
"At least be happy to see me," I spoke with a pout. "I missed you."
Jaz rolled her eyes. "You ain't missed me when you left for two whole days," she expressed walking deeper into the room. "Then, you took forever responding to my texts, since when?" She fussed. Her hands swung around in the air as she spoke.
I tried hiding my smile, bestie a little jelly. "Aww you really really missed me."
Jaz huffed. "No." She stated plainly.
I looked over at her, sadness washed over my face. "Really? I'm sorry." I felt a weight on my chest, feeling the need to apologize.
Jaz face softened along with her voice. "Oh no, it's okay I was just playing. I did miss you a lot." She came over wrapping her arms around me.
My mood brightened a little. I did miss Jaz, from since we got here I completely left her for Jai. Normally I would hang around the whole family while everyone's together, but Jai has been taking my attention lately. Not in a bad way of course!
"You're going to help cook this time?" Jaz questioned, pulling away from the hug.
"You know I can't cook."
"You can help peel the potatoes." She dragged me towards the kitchen. Everyone was piled either in the kitchen or living room.
One of Jaz older cousins, Karla, greeted me. They were only two years apart, we grew up hanging around each other. "Kamie!" She called me by my family nickname. "Hey I missed you oh my god." She exclaimed.
Karla rarely comes to these family gatherings. The last time she came we were around preteens and never had the chance to exchange numbers. Due to me not getting my first phone until I was 15.
She was really the life of the party, very overly hyped and her energy was always inviting. I would follow behind her lead, leaving Jaz to level our craziness out.
"Karla!" I squeezed her in the hug. "I didn't think you were going to be here."
"I was in the area and decided to stop by." Karla explained. She turned to Jaz with a soft smile. "Hey jazzy!"
"Hey." Jaz said softly. At some point they did bump heads because of me. Jazmine was very overprotective when it came to me and Karla ways didn't help.
She tried talking to Karla about her actions because she realized how I followed behind her. They had a whole heated argument the last time we seen each other, they overcame everything but the vibe just isn't there how it used to.
"Your hair looks amazing. I never thought you'd cut it." She complimented Jaz.
"Thanks. Me neither, I got tired of the long curls." Her hair was now short and curly, it sat on top of her head. Jazmine was a mixture of Dominican and Black. Her loose curls always framed her face as a child, but as she grew Jaz expressed she became bored of it. I helped her cut it and shape it up.
"It looks good. It compliments you well."
The rest of the evening we caught up with each other. We pitched our hands in to help cook as well. They always told us "if we don't help cook we just won't eat." And I'm gon' eat!
"You got a girl?!" Karla blurted out. I side eyed Jaz, she loves telling everyone my business and it's starting to piss me off.
"No, I don't." I spoke nonchalantly. I moved across the kitchen to rinse off the potatoes I peeled.
I looked across the kitchen to see Karla and Jaz staring at me with an amused expression. "Don't lie. You just came back from her place." Jaz teased.
"Can you not?" I rolled my eyes. I filled the bowl of sliced potatoes up with water before setting it on the table. "I'm done Momma K. Please tell your daughter to leave me alone." I complained after leaving them in the kitchen.
"Jazmine! Leave Kamie alone." She yelled from the living room.
I could hear Karla snickering. "And Karla too." I whispered to Momma K.
"And Karla! Leave her alone."
They both emerged from the kitchen. Karla carrying a shocked expression. "I didn't even do anything." She complained.
"I don't want to hear it." I snickered behind Momma K as they both got scolded.
"She's literally laughing." Jaz whined. Momma K looked back at me which made me quickly fix my face into a pout.
"Y'all made my baby sad." She hugged me. I stuck my tongue out at them causing them to groan. "Y'all leave her alone." She firmly said, dismissing them.
I made my way back into my room. Jailanee ran across my mind as always. To be honest I didn't want to leave her house. She is the one that suggested for me to go and spend time with my family, then I could always come back afterwards.
I rarely get to see her in person, I see my family everyday. Whatever!

Soon enough Jai's face lit up on my phone screen. My eyes lingered across her face. "Hi!" I beamed.
"Hey love." She spoke softly, it sounded like she was asleep.
"Did I wake you?"
"Nah, I been up for a minute before you texted me." The phone was propped up on something as she laid on the bed.
"I wanted to ask you something."
"Hm?"
"Would you come over tomorrow for the gathering? I'll understand if you say no."
