Miss Honey was the first out of bed per usual. Even during her time off for summer, she was constantly use to starting the day early or on bad nights her father and Agatha would normally be in her dreams. But last night wasn't one of those nights thankfully.
The woman slowly sat up in bed with a small stretch, glancing at the time and seeing it was close to 7:00. Matilda was usually up an hour later.
Jenny got out of bed with a yawn, walking over to her closet to get an outfit for the day. Heading to the bathroom, she changed out of her night gown and slipped on a comfortable blouse, a subtle flower pattern on the light blue material and a long skirt that fell to her ankles. Slipping on a pair of stockings and then her shoes, she brushed through her hair, leaving the bathroom when she was finished. Jenny briefly glanced at the window, noticing something fly by the trees near the beach, squinting her eyes slightly to try and make out what it looked like. It had the shape of a falcon, was it the one Miss Peregrine had mentioned?
She snapped out of her thoughts when she heard someone up and about downstairs, opening her door and walking down the hallway.
"You're up earlier than usual." Jenny smiles, noticing the girl in the kitchen making pancakes.
"I wanted to get a head start on breakfast before we go to the beach." Matilda says with a grin, clearly beaming with excitement. Jenny joined her in the kitchen and got out plates for them both as well as a drink.
"You know I can also cook." The woman points out, letting out a soft chuckle when the girl spoke up.
"I know, but I like to help."
"I appreciate the help, little bee." Jenny says softly, setting up the small table in the kitchen of the home they were staying in. It was odd staying in a different place, but she was slowly getting used to it. It was nice being in a smaller space similar to her old cottage. Despite it being worn down, she missed living in the place when she took over her fathers home. But she needed room for Matilda and for the little girl, she would do anything to see her smile.
"What would you like to drink?"
"Just milk please." Matilda says, helping Jenny set the table before the woman walked over to the fridge. She got the girl a glass of milk and then walked over to the stove to turn on the kettle and get a cup of tea prepared for herself. Jenny handled the rest of the pancakes, taking them to the table and placing two on Matilda's plate and set one on hers, sitting the rest on the middle of the table.
"What was her name again?" Matilda asks.
"Miss Peregrine."
"Did Miss Peregrine want us to meet her at the beach or is she coming here?"
"Well, she doesn't quite know where we're staying so I'd imagine we should meet with her shortly after breakfast." Jenny replies, taking a small bite from her food. She didn't know the woman on a personal level, but she seemed to be a bit strict about time from what she's seen.
Matilda practically rushed through her meal as Jenny made her tea, about to rush upstairs to get ready when the woman caught her attention.
"Why the rush, dear?" She chuckles, Matilda anxiously waiting by the stairs.
"I'm too excited to sit still! I need to get ready!" Matilda grins, eagerly rushing upstairs.
"Alright, but you still have an hour!" Jenny calls after her with a smile, watching the girl dash to her bedroom.
The woman stayed in the kitchen, cleaning up the table and finishing up her pancakes before setting the dishes in the sink. She debated washing them now or later, but decided to go ahead to pass time. Taking a sip of her tea, she began running the water and scrubbing at the plates, briefly glancing out the window when she would see someone pass by. A part of her hoped it would be Alma, but she wasn't quite sure why. Besides, the woman didn't know where the home was, she couldn't just randomly show up.
