Yellow
I woke up to the sound of knocking, and it's coming through my door. I grumble who on Earth is knocking on my door this early in the morning? I reach my phone and check the time. It's not morning anymore apparently it's twelve-thirty in the afternoon.
"Miss Yellow, are you there?" a small voice calls It's Rory, did something happen? But her voice didn't sound worried or something. I stood up from the floor where I slept last night since I forgot I didn't have a bed nor a couch. I just set up a blanket. I have to go shopping later. I walked to my door; I opened it. Rory is there and her dad Warrick. Fuck I close the door again immediately. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. I haven't brushed my teeth, my hair absolutely looks like a bird nest. I just fucking woke up.
"Sorry, give me a minute!" I yell
"No problem, take your time" Warrick replies and I heard Rory chuckles.
I ran to the bathroom to brush my teeth, fix my hair and free it from the bun. I went back to the door. Two of them are still there, Rory is carrying a box
"Sorry about that, it was rude of me. What's up?" Does this guy look like this every time? I know it's already afternoon but this man always looks just got showered and smells like baby powder you know what I mean right? And he's looking at me like he could eat me right now. Shit forgot I said that. He's married. Forget it.
He cleared his throat. "Uhm... Sorry too, did we wake you up? Rory here wants to give you cookies" with his low voice that makes me imagine things I shouldn't.
"Miss Yellow this is for you, buy it from the best cafe here. Since daddy can't bake 'cuz the last time he tried our oven exploded. But Mrs. Fatima added brownies too, her brownies are best!" she tells and handed me the box she is carrying I reached for it before looking at Warrick,
I snorted, picturing him baking and the oven exploding. I mean it's dangerous and it's also funny. "So, the oven exploded"
He shrugs, "Yeah, I won't bake again after that incident."
"Was your wife not around that time?" I am curious.
He shakes his head "I don't have a wife, Yellow it's only me and Rory." he says the corner of his mouth smirks
He's not married I thought... well thought wrong so he's a single dad and very much single but does not mean I can continue to imagine things with him, nope big NO. I just got out of a four-year relationship.
But I can't help wondering where Rory's mother is? But I did not ask, it's too personal and I just got moved in. I don't want to be the nosy neighbor, even though I love stories I still know how not to cross the boundaries.
"Oh... Sorry I did not know" I told him with an apologetic smile and I turned my head to Rory who was smiling so brightly to me "Thank you for these you are such a sweet neighbor." I say "I should be the one giving you treats since I am the one who moved in this house, but thanks for this I really appreciate it next time once I get settled, I give you treats. What do you like?" I ask her.
"I love chocolate cakes!" she squeals
"Chocolate cake it is."
Warrick spoke again "Come on sunshine we have to leave Miss Yellow alone," he told Rory and looked in my direction. "We'll get out of your hair now, before I forget Fatima the Cafe owner added the brownies to welcome you to the village since my daughter is a little over-share you know, and if you have time come visit their cafe she says."
My eyes widened. I can't believe that people who live here are a bit sweet. I definitely have to go to that cafe so I could thank her personally.
"Thank you, Warrick I do, appreciate it so much."
"You're welcome, it's her idea" pointing at his daughter. "We will go now, if you need something we're just next door." he says I gave him a genuine smile before closing the door.
After that I showered, I plan to go shopping for a bed because I won't spend another night sleeping on the floor. It's cold and my back hurts. I bought the cookies and brownies with me since I haven't eaten yet. I'll just stop at Tim Horton's for a coffee and I'll function all day... I hope so.
